The state health agency’s decision to regionalize means no more Oconee County office for copies of birth and death certificates. But the Oconee County Coroner’s Office has advice on where and how to obtain a birth or death certificate, which may be required to obtain a driver’s license, passport, documentation for employment, or life insurance benefits. The Office of Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis states there are two options: You can go to the DHEC website and click on the link identified as “Vital Records.” Follow the instructions and links to download forms to order certified copies. The second option requires a trip to the nearest regional DHEC office, which is the Anderson County Health Department at 220 McGee Road in Anderson. Their phone number is 864-260-5667. Certified death certificates may not be obtained from the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
