LYNCHBURG & RADFORD (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- SW Virginia has a number of area powers that are still alive for state title repeats–or three-peats heading into the final day of this year’s spring jubilee. Beginning with girls softball where two-time defending state 3A champ Brookville will look to make it three when they face Warhill. The Bees took down Park View-South Hill 3-1 in the state semifinals. In 2A softball, Glenvar saw it’s title hopes end with a 2-0 loss to Central Woodstock. But in Class 1A, defending champ Parry McCluer will look to go back-to back after taking out Essex 3-0. They will face Mathews–and 8-0 winner over Galax in the other semifinal.

In Girls soccer action, the Salem girls are leading the charge as they have advanced to the 4A final with a 1-0 semifinal win over Monacan. They will advance to play Loudoun County, a team they lost to in the region finals a week ago, in double overtime. Meanwhile, the Blacksburg girls will go for a three-peat after taking down Tabb by a 1-0 count in the semifinals. in 2A soccer the Radford girls advance with a 2-1 win over Goochland. They will face an old nemesis in George Mason in the finals.

In Boys soccer action, the Blacksburg boys will look to add to their 12 state title total when they face region rival Western Albemarle for the state crown Saturday. Blacksburg recently defeated the Warriors 1-0 in 2OT for the region title on Monday night. EC Glass saw it’s 4A hopes shattered by a tough Chancellor squad 4-0 in their state semi.  And two-time defending champ Galax fell to Northampton by a 3-1 count..after leading that game 1-0.

In VHSL baseball action, Rustburg will play for the 3A baseball title against William Monroe after rallying for a 6-3 win over Poquoson on Friday at Liberty. Meanwhile both Grayson Co in 2A and Fort Chiswell in 1A ball were ousted in the state semifinals. Grayson lost 2-1 to Maggie Walker while Chiswell dropped a 3-1 decision to Windsor.
