The Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute facilitates learning environments across the College that develop students into strategic, thoughtful communicators and creators. In partnership with faculty members, and our colleagues in academic support programs, we support and develop Communication Intensive Courses, guide pedagogical reflection, and work to infuse written, oral, visual, and digital literacies into curricula.

Reporting to the Director of the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute, the Associate Director collaborates with the Director to develop and manage all aspects of the Institute’s programming, staff, and resources. As part of a coordinated leadership team, the Associate Director both supports the Director and makes independent contributions in the following areas of responsibility:

– Design, develop and implement a comprehensive faculty development program of workshops, seminars, and pedagogical consultation.

– Plan, create and maintain a varied portfolio of program documents, including a formal

Strategic Plan, handbooks for faculty and Institute staff, reports to stakeholders, and

informational materials such as web copy  and brochures.

– Support and co-manage a staff of 15-20 part-time Communication Fellows and one full­time Senior Administrative Assistant.

– Design, develop and lead formal professional development programming for

Communication Fellows.

– Promote student success by strategically enhancing academic support services and developing co-curricular opportunities.

– Ensure the Institute’s fiscal sustainability through judicious resource allocation, budget management, donor relations, and pursuit of funding opportunities.

– Manage special projects integral to the Institute’s strategic growth and development.

– Identify and respond to opportunities for workflow improvement.

– Actively build relationships and partnerships with other academic service programs, academic departments, the Institute’s  Faculty Advisory Council, and individual faculty members.

– Represent the Institute at meetings, events, and conferences, and through committee service.

– Contribute to a culture of engagement, curiosity, and collaboration at the Institute.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree and six years’ relevant experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A terminal degree, or significant progress to completion, in English, Communications, Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, the scholarship of teaching and learning, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate excellence in their teaching qualifications; curriculum development and instructional design experience; oral, written, visual, digital and interpersonal communication skills; knowledge of WAC/WID/CAC  programming; organizational and planning skills; and the ability to lead educators in professional and pedagogical development

COMPENSATION

$71,073 – $76,689; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
