HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A father and son have been arrested and charged with robbing a fast-food restaurant in Petersburg.

Police say the robbery occurred shortly before 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 14 at the KFC located at 3011 Oaklawn Boulevard. When officers arrived on scene, they observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A short pursuit was initiated after the suspect vehicle failed to pull over.

The pursuit terminated near the intersection of South 6th Avenue and Elm Street where one of the offenders was immediately taken into custody. Police say two other suspects fled on foot. Officers then established a perimeter and took one of the suspects into custody. The third got away and remains at large.

The two suspects who were taken into custody have been identified as 56-year-old Lawrence Irving and his son, 32-year-old Lawrence Tucker, both of Petersburg.

Tucker has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and six counts of abduction. Lawrence has been charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, six counts of abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, eluding, resisting arrest and several traffic-related charges.

Both suspects, who are father-son, are currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail.

“As a result of the officer’s rapid response and utilization of a coordinated team effort, two violent offenders were removed from the streets,” Lieutenant Paul Intravia said in a release.

The Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this matter and is requesting that any person(s) who may have witnessed the incident, were traveling in and around the area at the time of this incident or have any information to provide regarding the robbery, contact Detective James Barchanowicz of the Hopewell Police Department at (804) 541-2284.
