ASHLAND, Va. (WRIC) — Fans can join cast and crew to watch the season two premiere of ‘Mercy Street,’ the Civil War-era PBS drama set in Alexandria. The series shoots in Richmond and Petersburg.
Season two begins on PBS on Sunday, January 22, but it will premiere at Blackwell Center for the Performing Arts at Randolph Macon College in Ashland on December 11.
Guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s filming in Richmond and Petersburg with Co-creator and Executive Producer Lisa Wolfinger, Producer David A. Rosemont, and Audrey P. Davis, Director of the Alexandria Black History Museum and one of the on-set historians whose expertise is in the contraband slave movement.
The series follows the doctors, nurses and soldiers, as well as free, enslaved and contraband African Americans and other residents of the war-torn city, as they navigate the new world emerging from the most cataclysmic event in our country’s history.
Season 2 picks up directly from the dramatic events at the end of the first season finale, continuing to explore life in the chaotic city of Alexandria and the complicated interpersonal dynamics of the Mansion House Staff. Follow Dr. Foster, Samuel Diggs, Nurse Mary and the increasingly precarious position of the Green family amidst the changing world of the burgeoning black population.
