ROCK HILL SC—Winthrop men’s basketball coachPat Kelsey announced on Monday the signing of Josh Ferguson, a 6-8, 215-lb., product of Pembroke Pines Charter (FL) to a National Letter of Intent.

Ferguson, who played for Coach Dave Roca at Pembroke Pines, averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots as a senior in 2014-15 and helped lead the Jaguars to a 19-10 record and a district championship while playing alongside Marquette signee Haanif Cheatham.  As a junior he averaged 12.5 points and 9.2 rebounds.  Following his senior year, Ferguson played one year for the Naval Academy Prep School in Newport, RI, where he put up 22 points and 14 boards along with two blocked shots per game.

According to Kelsey, Ferguson has tremendous versatility and will play multiple positions for the Eagles. “Josh Ferguson is a huge piece to our puzzle.  He’s going to be a tremendous player at Winthrop,” said Kelsey.  “The great news is that he’s an even better young man and student.  From a basketball standpoint, he is long, athletic, tough and skilled.  While he is a great fit for our high octane offense, he also has a huge upside as a defensive presence as well.”

Ferguson is the son of Andre Ferguson and Catherine Woods.
