Assuming the SCHSL has its way, many area high school will end up in new regions starting with the 2016-2017 academic year. The new classification would include a 5A system, instead of the current 4A format. While this would make more state championships for most sports, football would see a reduction in total amount of yearly championships are currently 1A, 2A, and 4A each have two state championships.
