For the first time in the 18 year history of the award, a tri-county coach has been named Carolina Panthers High School Coach of the Year. Northwestern head coach Kyle Richardson, who was one of 10 Panthers Coach of the Week winners, was selected as the 2014 Carolina Panthers Coach of the Year. The 4th year head coach led the Trojans to the 2013 4A Division II State Title and a 15-0 record. Panthers executives cited Richardson’s on-field success coupled with his off-field work as the reason for his selection. According to the Panthers community relations department, they were especially impressed with Richardson’s “Win Today” mantra that has been instilled at Northwestern as well as the academic plan that has been recognized nationally. Richardson is only the 5th coach from South Carolina to win the Coach of the Year award. By being selected the Coach of the Year, Richardson won a $2,000 check for Northwestern High, who already received a $1,000 check after he was named Coach of the Week.
