Opera is one of the popular web and mobile browser. It has introduced a community feature that allows the users to create their own blogs and online communities at the official My Opera website.

With the recent announcement made by the My Opera that it will no longer offer community feature to its users, suddenly all the blog owners on My Opera started planning to migrate to the WordPress.

Why only WordPress not any other CMS?

WordPress provides an excellent opportunity for the individuals who have launched blogs on third party blogging services like My Opera and many others. You must spot the difference and know that the self-hosted WordPress website is not similar to the website that you have on WordPress.com.

Before migrating your website, you need to have some things like domain name and a good webhosting that has prior offered hosting services to WordPress powered websites.

Exporting all the files of My Opera Blog:

In order to export the files from your blog, you must first access the My Opera account by furnishing the valid details.

You must tap on the wrench icon present to the right side of screen in order to open the account page. On accessing the account page, you must tap on the link displayed as Blog Settings.

From the blog settings page, you can view an attractive button in blue colour and carrying the label ‘Export your blog’. You must hit this button to initiate the process of exporting files.

And on the next immediate screen, the My Opera will notify you that the WordPress Export process has initiated. Once the files are ready to download, you will get an email notification stating that you can download the files now.

Check your inbox where in you can find the WordPress export file and you must download it on to your personal computer.

Installing WordPress:

Once you have exported the My Opera data, the next step in the process is to install a WordPress on the web hosting that you have tied-up with. It’s pretty simple and it only requires few clicks to setup the WordPress.

Once you finish installing the WordPress, you must engage in importing the content to your latest WordPress website.

Importing My Opera files into WordPress:

Upon installing the WordPress successfully, the further step in the process is to import the My Opera files into your newly created self-hosted blog. To import the files, you need to first access the WordPress Admin area and then point to the Tools from where you can find the Import option. The next screen will depict few import options.

You already know that WordPress has great capability of importing information or files from all the blogging services. But your My Opera is not available in the list because you already have the entire Opera files in the WordPress format.

This makes the migration bit easier, because you have to concentrate on the procedure of importing or moving files from one blog to other blog.

In order to start the importing process, you have to just tap on the WordPress which opens up a popup window seeking your consent to set up the Imported Plugin. Click on the Install Now button to move further in the process and WordPress will directly download and install the plugin on its own.

WordPress starts downloading and installing the importer plugin. Click on the Activate Plugin & Run Importer to continue the process.

The next immediate screen that appears will request you to upload the file that you wish to import. To import it properly, you need to click on the File button and choose the XML file that you have retrieved from My Opera. The next step in the process is to tap on the Upload file button and then hit the import button.

With this, the procedure comes to an end and you have successfully moved your files from My Opera to your much liked WordPress.
