SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Rhode Island held a basketball tournament over the weekend to raise money and awareness for child abuse.

The Shamrock Slam 3-on-3 tournament raised more than $25,000 for Prevent Child Abuse America.

The sorority said 80% of the proceeds will go to the Rhode Island PCAA chapter, and 20% will benefit the national chapter.

The entire Kappa Delta chapter volunteered for the event, which was spearheaded by Vice President of Community Service Erin Coakley.

Members of the URI women’s basketball team also donated their time to referee the games.
