Inspirational individuals in West Sussex were in the spotlight at Spirit FM’s Local Hero Awards on Friday (October 14).

The black-tie event at the The Avisford Park Hotel in Arundel showcased amazing acts of courage, determination, selflessness, and achievement.

Ten awards were given out in front of more than 150 guests and James Morrison was the star music guest.

He performed four songs on the evening and handed out the Child of Achievement award to Joshua Czaja, who raised thousands of pounds for the British Heart Foundation after his grandad suffered a heart attack.

Each winner received a trophy and a £200 cash donation to the charity of their choice, as well as the memory of an amazing night to cherish.

It’s the station’s biggest event of the year and the 10th anniversary awards night - another great success with more worthy winners and thousands of pounds raised for local charities.

Special thanks were given to Check-A-Trade.com and Frosts 4 Cars Chichester who have supported the event every year since its launch a decade ago.

Managing Director Sally Austin Said: “Spirit FM is extremely proud to serve the wonderful county of West Sussex, and never more so than on a night like the Spirit FM Local Hero Awards.

“Being able to honour some truly wonderful people and give them the recognition they deserve is what truly local radio is all about.

“We listen and interact with our audiences at such a personal level that nights like this are even more special. Can’t wait for the 2017 awards as they get bigger and better every year!”

Content Director and Co-Host of the awards Stuart McGinley said: “It’s always so humbling to meet people who have been able to deal with the worst life can throw at them, and not only do they keep on smiling, they also inspire others in the face of adversity.”
