Even though it’s still Summer, back to school shopping is right around the corner and it’s time to start preparing for it! If you’re trying to stick to a budget this year, there’s a few tips you can follow to rock your back to school shopping and still get lots of great stuff! Follow these tips to maximize your savings and snag some great deals this year for the kids!

1. Create a list.

Before you start doing any shopping, create a list of needs and wants. Some schools will provide a list of supplies that you need to buy during back to school shopping, but if not, create your own! Then, if there are still some school supplies the kids want that aren’t necessary, you can scout for those deals afterwards.
2. Check all the sales before you head out to go shopping!

Before you head out to start your back to school shopping, check all the sales of the various stores in your area. If it’s helpful for you, create a list of where you’ll be purchasing each item at the best sale price so you can stick to your budget! Also – remember to check for Tax-Free Weekend in your area! Ours is usually the first weekend of August!
3. Check online sales too.

Online sales are a great way to save during back to school shopping too! Check places like Amazon’s daily deals near back to school season and you’ll find some great deals on school supplies. You can also check places like eBay for things you need for school as well.

4. Get a quality backpack.

While you’ll want to save money on school supplies, you definitely want quality backpacks for the kids throughout the year so you won’t have to keep buying new ones due to wear and tear. Jansport backpacks like this one are a great buy because they’re known for quality and provide plenty of room for books, binders, and more!

5. Consider bullet journaling.

If your kids are having a hard time staying organized but are creative and like to do artsy things, consider having them start a bullet journal. They’re a great way to stay organized and add some creativity to your weekly organization and are great for high schoolers! Many people love these notebooks  for bullet journaling as they allow for creative designs and layouts, although any notebook would work! This would also be a fun family event and great way to spend time together if you take it up as a hobby together! Spending one day a week scheduling out your week and doing your bullet journal designs together can be a great quality time activity!

6. Don’t forget the unique items: There are several items that are unique to back to school that you might forget. These items are also often tax free during the tax free time, or thing that are not on the school list, but that we often forget. My suggestions are:

Printers

Ink

Label Machine

Laminator (and sheets)

Computer (and accessories)

Pencil Sharpener
