Windows 10 VR will be launched in January, 2017.
Looking for a cheap virtual reality solution for your low specs PC? Then you might be surprised to hear that Microsoft is currently working on a cheap VR solution.
Introducing the Windows 10 VR which uses Microsoft’s home-made VR headset. According to the company, the cheap VR headsets will be launched at the start of 2017 as part of the Windows Insider Preview build 14971.
While there are a few months left before we can grab a pair of Microsoft VR glasses, the company recently released a sneak peek. More specifically, last week, the tech company launched an application called Windows Holographic First Run.
Similar in design to online specs calculators such as ‘Can I Run it’, Windows Holographic First Run will analyze your computer’s performance in order to assess if it will be capable of running Windows 10 VR.
Before you say something like: ‘but you still need a powerful rig in order to run it’, here’s why this app is so important to us, especially for low-specs computer owners. Although the app is designed to assess your PC’s VR capabilities, it also features the minimum specs for running the much-anticipated Windows 10 VR.
So, what specs will you need in order to run the cheap Windows 10 VR? Let’s take a closer look.
Processor: dual-core with hyperthreading technology, quad-core, or AMD 6000-series.
Ram: at least 4GB.
Space: unspecified.
USB: 3.0 version.
Video: dedicated card. Must support DirectX 12.
As you can see from this specs list, the system requirements for running the Windows 10 VR are not that high. So, even if you have a low-end PC, you’ll still be able to enjoy the new VR technology.
What can you do with Windows 10 VR? Not much, at the moment. According to Microsoft’s statement, the device will initially be able to run Microsoft’s Hole tour and possibly several similar applications.
As for gaming, the company has not released any statements yet. Although the Windows 10 VR pales in comparison with HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, at least it’s a great start. The release date for Windows 10 VR was set for the second half of January 2017.
Price-wise, according to Microsoft, the VR headset’s price will start from $300. Is the device worth it or not? It remains to be seen after it is released.
