Are you having trouble with signing in with your Apple ID password? If so, we will help you out in this guide to recover your password and account.
For those that don’t know, your Apple ID account is used for everything you do regarding Apple. This includes shopping in the iTunes Store, signing in to iCloud, purchasing apps, and much more. However, if you can’t remember your password or the email address for your Apple ID, we got you covered in this guide.
Resetting Your Password
You can simply reset your password when you go to your Apple ID account page[1] and click Forgot Apple ID or password. After this, enter your Apple ID and click the “Next” button.
Answer Your Security Questions
If you know the answer to your security questions, pick “Answer security questions.”
Use Email Authentication
Upon choosing “Get an email,” Apple will send an email to your account or rescue email address[2] that you can use to reset your password. However, if you didn’t get the email visit support.apple.com[3].
Using Two-Step Verification
If you set up two-step verification[4], you can use it to simply change your password. All you need is a recovery key and a trusted device and follow the steps below:
Step 1: Enter your Recovery Key[5]
Step 2: Select a trusted device, and Apple will send your device a verification code
Step 3: Enter the verification code
Step 4: Set a new password and select Reset Password.
If you permanently lost your recovery key[6] or access to your trusted device, you can’t change your password.
Using Two-factor authentication
If you have two-factor authentication, you can simply reset or change your password from your trusted iOS device upon following these steps:
Step 1: Head to Setting > iCloud
Step 2: Tap your name
Step 3: Tap Password & Security
Step 4: Tap “Change Password”
Step 5: Enter a new Password.
In addition, the steps noted above will only work from a trusted device with a device passcode enabled. If you don’t have access to a trusted device, you can reset your password when you follow these steps:
Step 1: Head to iforgot.apple.com[7] and put in your Apple ID
Step 2: Put in your trusted phone number and hit Continue
Step 3: Enter the verification code that Apple sends to your trusted phone number
Step 4: Provide any account information during the request segment
Step 5: Choose your new password.
If you are having trouble with signing in, resetting your device or receiving verification codes, you can request account recovery to gain access to your account again[8]. Something worth noting, account recovery can take up to a few days, which depends on what account information you can give.
After resetting your password successfully, you will be prompted to sign in again with your new password. Lastly, you might need to update your password[9] in Apple services and on your devices.
