The first month of 2015 was an exciting one for the world of technology. This includes a slew of brand-new iPhone and iPad apps and games making their debut on the App Store.

This list of the 10 best new iOS apps and games from January rounds up the cream of the crop.

Games

Skyward for iOS

Skyward[2] (Ketchapp[3] – Free) – Skyward made its debut on the App Store with quite a bang, and it’s quickly becoming an incredibly popular iOS game.

The goal is to navigate dynamic labyrinths very carefully using a combination of strategy and good timing.

The game itself is gorgeous to look at, and it’s very peaceful to play.

Gunbrick[4] (Nitrome[5] – $2.99) – Recently named as one of the App Store’s Editor’s Choice games, Gunbrick is an incredibly unique and fun game for iOS.

This puzzle platformer requires you to navigate your brick through several levels and bosses.

Roll over your enemies using simple swipe and tap controls, and collect plenty of achievements.

Socioball[6] (Yellow Monkey Studios[7] – $2.99) – Socioball is another brainteasing puzzle game for iOS, and this one is a bit different from others in its category.

To play, you’ll have to use your creativity to solve over 60 puzzles by navigating your ball through levels from start to finish.

This is accomplished by strategically placing missing tiles in the correct place around the board. Players can even create their own puzzles using the game’s built-in level editor.

Minesweeper – Widget Edition for iOS

Wizard Golf RPG[8] (Floor 27 Industries[9] – Free) – If you’re a fan of old-school RPG games, then Wizard Golf RPG for iOS is exactly what you’re looking for.

This unique mini-golf game requires you to traverse through 12 courses, each featuring 9 holes to complete.

However, Wizard Golf RPG is much more than just getting the ball to the hole.

You can use weapons to destroy enemies, collect loot, and upgrade your character’s spells to make him even better at golf.

Minesweeper – Widget Edition[10] (AA Mather[11] – $0.99) – Ah, the classic game of Minesweeper. If you grew up in the early era of computers, you’ll certainly remember this torturous game.

This adaptation of Minesweeper brings the puzzle game directly to your iPhone or iPad’s Notification Center, meaning you can play it anywhere and at any time.

Plus, your progress is automatically saved and loaded each time you want to play, so you don’t have to worry about finishing a game immediately.

Apps

Microsoft Outlook for iOS

Microsoft Outlook[12] (Microsoft Corporation[13] – Free) – While the generic mail client for iPhone and iPad is usually sufficient enough for basic email management, sometimes you just need a bit more “oomph”.

Alas, Microsoft has delivered by bringing its stellar desktop mail client to iOS.

With Outlook, you’ll be able to easily combine email accounts from popular free services like Gmail and Outlook, as well as Microsoft Exchange accounts.

Microsoft Outlook also lets you access your calendar and manage attachments with ease.

Evernote Scannable[14] (Evernote[15] – Free) – Evernote is my digital organizer of choice, but sometimes it’s tricky to capture physical documents and data for inclusion in a note.

That’s where Evernote Scannable comes into play.

This brand-new app for iOS allows you to easily scan receipts, business cards, contracts, etc. into Evernote.

The app even intelligently rotates and crops documents so everything is clear and easy to read.

Purrge[16] (AppJester[17] – $0.99) – There are many things that iOS devices can do well, and one of them is taking photos.

However, how many times have you received the dreaded “Low Storage” message, just to find that your iDevice is loaded with old photos?

Purrge gives users a quick and easy way to manage your camera roll using swipe gestures and batch deletion features.

Purrge for iOS

Chrome Remote Desktop[18] (Google[19] – Free) – If Google Chrome is your browser of choice, then the new Chrome Remote Desktop app for iOS is exactly what you need.

This brand-new app allows you to easily and securely access your desktop computers from the comfort of your iDevice.

No, this doesn’t let you control only Chrome on your desktop, but your whole computer.

Say goodbye to pricey desktop software, and say hello to a whole new way to use Chrome.

AllCast[20] (AllCast LLC[21] – Free) – Though popular social networking services are a great way to share photos with family and friends, sometimes you want to do the same thing with people under the same roof.

That’s where AllCast comes in handy.

This free iOS app lets you quickly and easily stream media such as photos, music, and videos directly to your TV via devices such as Chromecast, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xbox, Roku, and more.
