Perhaps it’s a sign that the world has officially gone stark raving mad.

After a Harambe-shaped Cheeto sold for nearly $100,000 on eBay this week, the auction site has exploded with more than 230 active listings for “Harambe Cheeto” – and users are submitting bids for hundreds and even thousands of dollars for the bizarrely shaped cheesy snacks they claim are shaped like the 17-year-old male gorilla shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo in May 2016.

On Tuesday, the following listing closed with 132 bids, for a final purchase price of $99,900.

As of Wednesday, another listing with 55 bids had reached $7,160. The auction is scheduled to end Saturday evening:

And another, with six bids, described as Harambe “swinging from a tree,” was selling for $3,800:

One – with a current bid of $500 – merely offered a screenshot image of the eBay listing for the first Cheeto sold for nearly $100,000.

EBay has not returned WND’s requests for comment concerning legitimacy of the listings and whether money will actually change hands once the Cheeto auctions have concluded.

The following are several more active “Harambe Cheeto” listings.

“Harambe the Gorilla Cheeto Rare and One of a Kind,” 14 bids, current price of $410.

“Harambe Cheeto Original Painting on Canvas 16×20 inches One of a Kind,” with a current bid of $45:

As WND reported, Harambe was killed after a 3-year-old little boy fell into an enclosure at the zoo on May 28, 2016. Afterward, public reaction to the slaying of the 450-pound gorilla exploded on the web, talk radio and television.

Animal activists even launched a trending Twitter hashtag demanding #JusticeForHarambe. A Justice for Harambe Facebook page popped up only hours after the incident. And a Change.org petition was signed by nearly 500,000 people suggesting the boy’s parents showed parental negligence and should face an investigation of the child’s home environment. Some even suggested subjecting children to a law requiring they wear leashes.
