Palácio da Regaleira
The Regaleira Palace (Palácio da Regaleira) is the core building and the more common name for Quinta da Regaleira. The palace is also known as Palácio (palace) do Monteiro dos Milhões, The splendid villa is located on the mountainside not far from Sintra’s historical center in Portugal. The palace was opened for public since 2002. The palace is World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It was constructed in the beginning of twentieth century, to the summer residence of Viscountess Regaleira and was later bought by millionaire António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, is the main building of Quinta da Regaleira. It was architected by Luigi Manini with a mixture of Manueline, Renaissance, Gothic and romantic styles.
Palace of the regalia is also known as Palace of the Millions, because its founder and 1st owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, hired the Italian architect Luigi Manini to realize your dream millionaire, situated on the mountainside. The Palace has a grand octagonal tower and is surrounded by lush gardens, lakes, caves and enigmatic constructions, which is said to house alchemical secrets. Carvalho Monteiro had wanted a grandiose space, where she could live surrounded by symbols that represent their interests and ideologies. He wanted to revive the glorious past of Portugal enriched with the symbolism of esoteric subjects such as Freemasonry, Templars and Rosicrucians.
