The annual Hong Kong Film Awards were held last night and a film that revolves around Hong Kong’s possibility upon its official return to China in 2025 took the top prize of Best Film. The film, a series of five stories entitled Ten Years won the big award. The film had a release in Hong Kong, but Mainland China refused to screen the film due to its storyline.
While Ten Years took the top prize, the ceremony truly belonged to the Hong Kong crime thriller Port of Call, based on a true story, which nabbed seven awards. Tsui Hark won the Best Director Award for The Taking of Tiger Mountain. Nicky Li won the Best Action Choreography award for his work in SPL 2, which will be getting a U.S. release in May with the new name Killzone 2.
Li Lihua received the Lifetime Achievement Award while actor/lighting expert Chow Wing-Kwong won the Professional Achievement Award.
