Meine Damen und Herren,
Es wird Zeit für eine Denkpause.
In Betracht auf den überraschenden Wahlsieg von Donald Trump gewinnt die Abstimmung im Bundestag heute eine außerordentliche Bedeutung.
Es gibt bei uns in den Vereinigten Staaten sehr leidenschaftliche Kriegstreiber. Gott sei Dank ist Präsident Obama ist nicht einer davon. Meiner Meinung nach möchte auch Donald Trump, wie Obama, das bewaffnete Chaos in Syrien beenden.
Es ist durchaus möglich, dass beide –- Obama und Trump — es lieber hätten, wenn die Bundesregierung irgendeine Schritt zum Ermutigen der “Hawks” (oder Falken) in Washington vermeiden würde.
Meiner Meinung nach ist eine friedliche Lösung der Katastrophe in Syrien ohne die Kooperation mit den Russen gar nicht möglich. Diese Kooperation wird wahrscheinlicher mit einem Trump, als mit einer Clinton.
Ist es nicht durchaus klar? Heute ist die Zeit für eine DENKPAUSE?
Gestern war ich mit einer Gruppe zusammen, die in unserem Sprachgebrauch zum “one percent” (dem “ein Prozent” – der Elite) gehört. In dieser Gruppe war ein ehemaliger US-Botschafter zur NATO.
Ihm wurde gefragt, wäre es nicht besser, mit den Russen zu sprechen, zu verhandeln?
Der Botschafter antwortete diese Frage auf einer sehr erniedrigenden Weise, “Sie sind offensichtlich ein Trump-Unterstützer. Aber Hillary Clinton wird sicherlich gewinnen.” Er meinte, in diesem Fall wäre es Unsinn — unrealistisch — baldige Verhandlungen mit den Russen zu erwarten.
Ich möchte zugeben: “Donald Trump is no John Kennedy.” – Der Trump ist kein Kennedy.
ABER lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: zumindest wird nächstes Jahr mit Trump ein vernünftigere Ostpolitik vielleicht möglich. Entspannung statt immer mehr und mehr Spannung.
Meines Erachtens, muss man die Russen als Partner, und NICHT als Feinde, betrachten.
Um Winston Churchill zu zitieren, “It is better to jaw-jaw than to war-war.” “Es ist besser miteinander zu sprechen, als Krieg zu treiben.
Und am Allerwichtigsten — wir müssen die Möglichkeit einer echten Entspannung heute ERNST nehmen. Wir müssen eine Denkpause machen. Auch der Bundestag muss umdenken. Wir müssen Neues denken, umdenken, weil, wie wir alle wissen –:Die Gedanken sind frei.

Ladies and gentlemen,
In view of the surprising election victory of Donald Trump, today’s vote in the Bundestag is of great importance.
There are very passionate warmongers in the U.S. Thank goodness, President Obama is not one of them. In my opinion, Donald Trump, like Obama, wants to end the armed chaos in Syria.
I believe it is quite possible that both – Obama as well as Trump – would prefer for the German government to avoid taking any steps to encourage the “hawks” in Washington. An extension of the Syrian war into a NATO war would be such a step.
In my opinion, a peaceful solution to the disaster in Syria is not possible without cooperation with the Russians. This cooperation will be more likely with Donald Trump as US-President than with Hillary Clinton.
Let’s take the time for reflection,
I myself voted for Dr. Jill Stein. She was the presidential candidate of the US Green Party, a small electoral party committed to protecting peace and the environment.
Yesterday, I was part of a group that we would consider to be part of the “one percent” (the elite). In this group was a former US ambassador to NATO.
When asked whether it would not be better to talk with the Russians or negotiate with them, the former ambassador answered this question in a very arrogant way: “You are obviously a Trump supporter. But Hillary Clinton will win for sure.” He said that in this case it would be nonsense and unrealistic to expect early negotiations with the Russians.
I admit, “Donald Trump is no John Kennedy.” Trump is not a Kennedy.
But to cut a long speech short: At least, according to my assessment perhaps with Trump in the next year a more sensible Ostpolitik will be possible. Maybe a deescalation is possible instead of more and more tension.
In my opinion, we must regard the Russians as partners and NOT as enemies.
And to quote Winston Churchill, “It’s better to jaw-jaw than to war-war.” It’s better to talk to each other than to wage war.
And most importantly, we should take very seriously the opportunity of a real policy of détente. We must now take a pause. The German parliament, the Bundestag, should also rethink things. Let us think of something new, away from images of enemies and military solutions, because, as we all know, thoughts are free.
