Who are we?A: Safelight Security is made up of a diverse group of security and business professionals with expertise in the realms of security education, IT, product development, graphic design, higher learning, customer service and business development. You will be part of the team that works together with our customer advisory panel to shape this vision and deliver a hosted web service that meets the needs of our diverse set of customers.Q: Where is this position located?A: This opportunity is ideally based in our Boston office. That said, remote locations would be up for discussion for the right candidate.Q: Would would a typical day look like?A: Most days at Safelight are anything but typical. Any given day may see you hashing out product features with the Chief Architect and VP of Engineering, discussing interface design with our user experience specialist, listening to customer feedback to improve our product, learning about a new framework that will help create a world class solution, writing lots of code to bring your ideas to life and occasionally discussing your favorite comic book or TV show around the office coffee pot.Q: Who will I be working with?A: As a Senior Web Developer with Safelight Security, you will work with the Safelight Engineering team as well as stakeholders from several customer organizations to bring to life a new product offering. Working with the Chief Architect and User Experience Specialist, you will have direct input into the design and development of this new platform. We're a 15 person company, so needless to say you'll know everyone on a first name basis hellip;as well as the names of their significant others and pets!Q: What hours do you work?A: We generally work ldquo;normal rdquo; office hours but are flexible. Most of us are in the Boston area so we typically follow an east coast time schedule. That said, we're a startup, so sometimes there are long hours and late meetings. At the same time, we all have families, friends, and personal commitments, so we aim for a good work-life balance.Q: What technology do you use?A: The team is currently considering Ruby as well as some Javascript APIs as the language of choice for this new product. However, we fully expect the senior web developer to have some opinions on the matter and bring some expertise that will definitely inform the technology decisions made for this project. All members of the team get a say in what we do and how we do it, that's how we roll.Q: What skills and qualities are you looking for in a candidate?A: We want someone who has experience in many web technologies and shows a tendency to reach for the right tool for the job rather than a slavish devotion to one language. We'd expect this person to have good development habits around proper use of source control, ability to write good documentation, willingness to review other people's code and have them review yours, and some secure coding best practices would be nice but we've got a lot of security folk to help you pick up on those quickly.
