You may have developed your own applications, worked on open-source projects or done freelance work. You are more of a Jack of all trades than a one-trick pony. You have a curious nature and get more excited than afraid by new tools and technologies. You can explain technical concepts and make them relevant to customers as well as non-technical co-workers. You like working on a few of the following types of things: setting up automated processes, solving scaling problems, data migrations, messaging protocols and network APIs and maybe even deploying software to remote embedded systems. Our services run on AWS, utilizing S3, EC2, EBS, Route 53 and ELB. Our app servers are provisioned using Docker, Capistrano and some shell scripts, so we'd like for you to have experience with these technologies. We run exclusively on either Debian or Ubuntu. We also install small devices at our customers premises (these run Debian) which communicate with us over several protocols - all encrypted. It's beneficial if you have experience with SSL and x509 certificates. Also beneficial is if you have experience with any of ZeroMQ, Dicom or HL7 protocols. General knowledge of VPN's and networking is also very useful. On the coding front, we have lots of code in both Ruby and in Rails. We also have components of our system in Java that need attention. Since we are a small team there is also a certain amount of support and technical discussions with partners and customers for everyone to take part in. A lot of our work directly impacts the workflow of medical staff and the level of service offered to patients. All of us find this greatly rewarding and we think you will too. You will be expected to work in a mostly self-sufficient manner, have ideas and be part of the decision-making related to any and all things technical. All of us (there's four developers right now) work on Mac laptops. You are free to work in another environment (i.e. Linux) but we would really think twice if you insist on running Windows. We use many "standard" tools like Git, Github, Pivotal Tracker, Textmate, Sublime Text, Vim and so on.
