GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Women across West Michigan are already hitting the (snow covered) pavement to train for the third annual Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5K.

The Gazelle Girl is the first women’s-only half marathon event in the state. Thousands of women participate each year, helping raise money for female-focused charities in the community. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Kent County Girls on the Run, Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW), the YWCA, and Women at Risk.

There are some fun new surprises for the race this year. Gazelle Girl worked with Terryberry to design a lapel pin for the 5K finishers. The half marathon charm is also a different design from previous years. Participants who take part in the Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and the Fifth Third River Bank Run 25k will receive a new double down medal.

The Gazelle Girl Half Marathon and 5K is Sunday, April 19 at 8 a.m. The race starts and finishes at the new location of Calder Plaza in Grand Rapids this year. The Half Marathon is $75 if you register before March 1; $85 if you register after March 1. The 5K is $30 before March 1 and $35 after.
