GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – American Medical Response is offering free, hands-only CPR training for the first time in West Michigan.

It’s happening Wednesday at several locations across West Michigan.

AMR Clinical Manager Patrick Lickiss said if you have 10 spare minutes Wednesday, you can learn how to save a life.

According to AMR, chest compressions can double or even triple a person’s chances of survival during a cardiac arrest.

The company hopes to train as many as 5,000 people Wednesday.

“We obviously have some high profile cases here of cardiac arrest both in adults and unfortunately in children and cardiac arrest is one of those situation where minutes truly do matter,” Lickiss said.

If you took CPR training in 2010 or before, Lickiss said a lot has changed, and the American Heart Association changes its guidelines every five years.

Lickiss encourages anyone to drop-in at one of the clinics, whether it’s for a refresher course or a first-time CPR training session.
