National Football League: Preseason Week 2

San Francisco 49ers (0-1, 0-0 away) at Denver Broncos (1-0, 0-0 home)

August 20, 2016- 9:00 PM ET Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium, Denver, CO

The defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos will return home for the first time this preseason as they seek to put on a show for their fans when they welcome in the visiting San Francisco 49ers into Sports Authority Field on Saturday night in a Week 2 preseason matchup that has the following betting lines;

Best 49ers Lines: BetAnySports Spread (+5.5) ML +185

Best Broncos Lines: MyBookie Spread (-4.5) ML “See Live Odds”

Over/Under: GTBets 39.5

While the Broncos will look to build on their Week 1 victory, San Francisco will be out for their first preseason win as they face the defending champs.

For the 49ers, the challenge will be great as they face the stingy defense of the Broncos, who will no doubt seek to make life miserable for the three contending signal callers in Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder and Jeff Driskal. Ponder is thought to have the slight advantage for the starting role but we have yet to see him make his debut.

Denver enters with a big question mark surrounding their starting quarterback as it remains unclear who will win out in claiming the starting spot. Skilled positions remain intact along the offense side of the ball as well as a defense that may be the best in the NFL… but who will get the starting nod to lead this Denver team?

All in all, the Niners can take some positives away from their preseason opener last week versus the Texans but know there is still plenty of room to get better with the start of the season less than a month away.

Week 2 will of course bring a bit more playing time for the starters but overall, it will be the reserves who will get the bulk of the snaps as they look to earn a spot.

Prediction/Pick

After a miserable 2015 campaign, San Francisco will be happy with any kind of positives they can get going forward but facing the Broncos will sure to be a stiff test. Taking a look at the betting lines for this contest, MyBookie has DEN (-4.5) points over SF, while the experts over at MyBookie are giving the Niners PLUS (+5.5) points as the underdogs.

Across the board, the over/under stands at 39.5 total game points scored. Staying with the home team in what should be an energized crowd, I will favor the Broncos MINUS the points (-4.5) over San Francisco to remain undefeated in the early going.
