quick review:
A romantic rumination trying to be sold as a thriller it is not. Interesting but not enough. Lots of philosophy but towards no tangible direction.

...Perhaps Ranbir too felt he had been taken for granted. I can think of no other reason why the opening credits over-compensated for the neglect of his character by saying: “Ranbir Kapoor In A Very Dynamic Role.” Huh?...

...Vikramjit Singh is clearly not a votary of melodrama and prefers to dabble on the undercurrents that play out between the layers of a story. The characters in Roy remain by and large muted. It’s a strange, slow, somnolent film that will be liked by only a few with an acquired taste. ...

...The young student might have said that in good fun, but the remark sadly sums up the present sad scenario of the so called ‘Crores Clubs’ just perfectly. And after reading these honest comments of the younger brigade if you still can find the courage to watch this debacle called ROY that should ideally be referred as “Jo Dekhe Woh ROYe”then all I can say is All The Best and nothing else....

...Arjun Rampal is channelling his inner angsty hippie here. He gets the slumped demeanour right. The stubble and even the dandruff-hair work. But all’s lost in that exquisite but stony face. Is something the matter with Ranbir Kapoor? First hyper-stupidity in Besharam and now sleep-walking through this cuckoo? Should we worry about Bombay Velvet? Fernandez is, well, easy on the eye and charming. Now for some acting and diction lessons, please....

...It's difficult to pick what is Roy's greatest achievements. But somewhere near the top of the list is the fact that director Vikramjit Singh has managed to make a film that has two of Bollywood's most goodlooking heroes, and leave a woman stalking random people's honeymoon pictures on Facebook mobile. To quote Kapoor in Roy, "Yeh kahani aisay khatam hogi, mein nahin janta tha."...

...The film is beautifully shot but there’s really no purpose to that unless it’s to make an incredibly beautiful country look even more so. The songs are peppy, folksy and soulful but don’t fit in with the narrative. Jacqueline looks beautiful but her dialogue delivery and acting credentials continue to be suspect. Ranbir Kapoor is a little too sober and low-key to be able to keep his fan-base contended while Arjun Ramphal, looking soulful and intense, seems a bit lost in this entirely puerile exercise. Above all, there is nothing much to the script other than parallel plotlines tentatively feeding off each other through random musings and bizarre wordplay – and that’s not a pretty sight mind you! ...

...In fact, you may find yourself concentrating more on the scenery than on the dialogues. The songs are mostly average, though a couple of them are now popular. The editing is effective, but it does not seem like that, especially when you find yourself watching countless sequences in which nothing much happens. It is a lengthy movie, and you may find your attention wavering....

...So here are my questions. Who wrote this? Who is it for? The mystery and the enigma, which are set up lazily and obviously, never really take root. I haven’t seen something as fuzzy and dreary as ‘Roy’ in a long time : just what is Ranbir Kapoor doing in a movie like this?...

...Roy has a good premise, a good idea, a good vision but the director is not able to live up to his own vision as a director. Roy is too intelligent for itself and ends up being a boring, confused film with a convoluted plot that is neither a good thriller nor a good love story. You can watch the film for the music videos and the gorgeous cinematography because otherwise it is too much of a slog to survive the duration of the film....

...Roy is a twisted love story that has a thriller coating. It is a non-purpose film which gives nothing but just tells a story that is multi-layered to create intrigue. It is a confused plot which is enthused with style. In the film there is a dialogue which says “Ye film kaise ban gayi” and I quite agreed with that! I am going with a 2/5 for this film....

...While Rampal and Fernandez stir up a modicum of chemistry, the scenes between Fernandez and Kapoor are icy, which is saying something considering that Kapoor has enough charm to win over a lamp post. But as Roy, even he seems restricted to picking from a handful of expressions. Both of Fernandez’s characters are too alike—brooding, weighed down and over-costumed....

...Dum? Well, except for fantastic songs, beautifully looking Jacqueline, picturesque location, there is nothing more in this boring film. 'Roy' joins the long list of all those films where superstars are added as a saving grace. In short, if you are looking out for some good amount of joy in the movie 'Roy', then let me sum it up by saying there is very less of joy and has more of cloy in the movie 'Roy'....
