quick review:

Khoobsurat might not sweep you off your feet, but it will take you into its dreamy, even if contemporary, world for those two hours.

...Besides being fun, this is a sensible film. It’s non-judgmental towards Nirmala Rathore despite her harshness. The humour is never raucous and often used to convey an important point: note Milli’s response to Nirmala’s confusion on discovering that Ms Chakravarty considers herself a Punjabi. Except for some rough patches I’ve already grumbled about, this is a well-told story. There you go Sajid Khan, frothy does not have to mean foolish. Khoobsurat is proof of that....

...Summing up, this first presentation of Disney does have a routine, predictable script having few major drops too. However its young and lively feel, accompanied by some crisp editing, good performances and an innovative background score cover up its minuses well and result in a fairly enjoyable, clean family entertainer respectfully living up to the reputation earned by its title. So you can easily give it a preference over the other releases this Friday as per my opinion....

...Except for Fawad Khan who looks nonplussed at all times (which he probably was), not one over-acting performer seems to have asked the director just what they were doing and why; if Sonam Kapoor had asked, perhaps she would have toned down her irritatingly loud character, and Kirron Kher would have turned down the role....

...You can’t completely write-off the film, it’s a one time watch if you have nothing to do this weekend. In fact, Kirron Kher, despite her repetitive acting, is still very entertaining throughout the film. Presence of Fawad Khan will definetly drag her female fans to the theater. Rest, Sonam Kapoor's fans will get what they expect from her....

...Director Shashank Ghosh is no Hrishikesh Mukherjee. But he's managed to make a perfect Disney movie. It makes you laugh. It makes you go "aww" and that goes a long way in a young romance. It's definitely not as good as the original. But it's perfectly in tune with the times....

...For the second time in months, Bollywood has turned the tables to great effect by making a hero play the part that was traditionally reserved for women. We heartily approve. As heroines have argued over the years, it isn't demeaning to be an important and beautiful prop when the character is written and performed well. With actors like Khan in the mix, there may yet be hope for the Indian romantic comedy....

...There’s no enlivening this uninteresting, feckless, unbelievingly dull exercise in futility. Even Sneha Khanvilkar’s beautiful compositions sound out of sync with what’s happening on screen. There’s no chance of careers being established or made on the strength (or lack of it) of this feeble salvo. Much more would need to be done to accomplish that. This one’s a royal PAIN…no less!...

...There are problems too, particularly a handful of script contrivances that jar. A break-up between a couple that's engaged to be married feels strangely sterile, and the protagonist's way of dealing with heartbreak towards the end of the film feels 'different' for the sake of it. But these are minor quibbles in a film that is inherently sweet. Khoobsurat, then, is a good example of how formula, when done skillfully, doesn't have to be a bad thing....

They will go with incorrect expectations and come back disappointed on grounds of it being unrealistic primarily. I did not mind the lack of novelty because it was afterall a well executed film. ...Director Shashanka Ghosh does a decent job of presenting a fantasy tale, but wish it offered a little more than what was expected from this film even before entering the theatre. Fairy tales are fantasies served with candyfloss. 'Khoobsurat' aims to be just that, only it is less creative fantasy and dripping more of sugary syrup. ...Dum?, Well the movie is a decent fun loving one time candy floss entertainer, catering the teens and family audiences. It cannot be compared with the original classic hit film 'Khubsoorat' as the whole storyline has been majorly changed. It's a clean family entertainer with a Cinderella or meeting the Prince charming type of concept attached to it, due to which the movie ends up being another 'Disney' type of fairy tale type of love story, which in case of 'Khoobsurat' could be termed as desi tale of a 'Disney' beauty....

...Khoobsurat is not a bad film. You could enjoy it if you have nothing better to do. The happily-ever-after endings usually make for a pleasant watch. ...In a tribute to Mukherjee’s film, Ghosh has named Milli’s mother as Manju, the central character of Mukherjee’s film and ensures that people get to know this link by making Milli address her mother by her first name. It sounds more forced than funny. And the rigid Nirmala played by Dina Pathak in the original is replaced by Ratna Pathak Shah. As the snobbish matriarch of the palace, who doesn’t approve of the loud gestures of Milli, Shah just has to repeat her Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai act and she does it with unmistakable flair. But it is Kiron Kher, repeating herself as the stereotypical Punjabi mother, who salvages the sagging screenplay by injecting freshness to the proceedings with her effortless delivery of Juhi Chaturvedi’s punchlines. She brings the house down when she questions the royalty’s fondness to address itself as ‘we’. Once again it is Manju who saves the day!...
