There were several contested state House and Senate seats in Thursday’s primary and it appears that the incumbents fared well.

In Knox County, Martin Daniel held on to the 18th House seat, beating Steve Hall 39% to 28%.

It was the General Local Election and in contested Knox County Commission races the winners were Evelyn Gill in District 1, Michelle Carringer in District 2, the District 4 winner was Hugh Nystrom, District 5 was John Schoomaker, Brad Anders won District 6, Dave Wright in District 8, and Carson Daly won in District 9.

There was one Knox County School Board race contested, Susan Horn was the winner in District Five.

In Blount County, 2nd District State Senate incumbent Doug Overbey faced a tough primary against Scott Williams, winning out though with 60% of the vote.

Embattled Nashville incumbent Representative Jeremy Durham lost his seat to Sam Whitson. Durham had already suspended his campaign after allegations of improper sexual contact with 22 women.

In the Tri-Cities Jon Lundberg has won the Senate seat vacated by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey.

Hawkins County Representative Gary Hicks secured another term in the 9th district with 54% of the vote.

In the Federal Primary Election, Representative Jimmy Duncan ran uncontested. Incumbent Representative Scott DesJarlais clung to his seat with 52% of the vote. There were no US Senatorial seats in this election.
