Cole Cross loved the playground at Mooreland Heights Elementary School, though he wasn’t able to use it much as his brain cancer advanced. Cole died last year at age 6. Now, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett is behind a push to build a nice, new playground in Cole’s memory. Burchett is requesting donations from the community to cover the $35,000 cost. Checks can be sent to:

Mayor Burchett says he was spurred to action by a letter from a little girl who was a classmate of Cole’s. She wanted to know if the mayor could make a holiday in honor of her friend. A playground would surely be the next best thing!
