2007-John Mellencamp announces to the crowd at his show in Erie, Pennsylvania, “I got a phone call today. I found out I’m in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

2006-Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock each file for divorce, after four months of wedded bliss.

2000-The Who wrap up a U-K tour in London by headlining a benefit for the Teenage Cancer Trust at Royal Albert Hall. Bryan Adams joins in on “Behind Blue Eyes.”

2000-The Beatles’ One album lives up to its title and enters the charts at the top.

1995-The Beatles Anthology I sets a first-week sales record of 1.2 million copies.

1991-MTV 10, the channel’s 10th anniversary special, airs on ABC. One highlight is a taped performance of Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” with Slash of Guns n’ Roses on guitar.

1987-Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and his wife, former Bananarama member (who went on to form Shakespear’s Sister) Siobhan Fahey, have a son.

1983-Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Charlie Watts, Joe Cocker, Bill Wyman, Paul Rodgers, Kenny Jones and Ronnie Lane kick off the ARMS (Action Research Into Multiple Sclerosis) tour in Dallas.

1981-A Thanksgiving concert by The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band in Orlando, Florida is canceled after only 10-thousand of 60-thousand tickets are sold.

1978-Drummer Rick Allen joins Def Leppard.

1976-10cc guitarist Lol Creme and drummer-singer Kevin Godley quit the band to market a guitar device called The Gizmo and become famed video directors. Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart go on to score a hit with “The Things We Do for Love” without them.

1976-Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys appears on Saturday Night Live, singing and taking part in sketches.

1976-Queen releases “Somebody to Love.”

1972-The London Symphony Orchestra version of The Who’s Tommy, with lots of big name guest vocalists, is released. The album goes gold.

1970-George Harrison releases All Things Must Pass. The three-L-P set will soon reach number-one.

1969-The Rolling Stones perform the first of four concerts in two days at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Highlights of the shows, recorded for the album Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out, include “Honky Tonk Women,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Street Fighting Man.”

1968-Steppenwolf’s self-titled debut album, containing “Born to Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride,” is certified gold.

1967-The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour is released, containing “Penny Lane,” “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “All You Need Is Love.”

Supertramp saxophonist.  Born in 1948.

Jimi Hendrix-Died in 1970

The brilliantly innovative guitarist and singer, whose best-known songs include “Purple Haze” and “All Along the Watchtower,” made famed festival appearances at Monterey Pop and Woodstock. Early in his career (as Jimmy James), he played in Joey Dee & the Starliters and backed The Isley Brothers, Sam Cooke and Little Richard. The Seattle native died of a drug OD in London September 18th, 1970 at 27.  Born in 1942.
