MONTGOMERY COUNTY — (WMAL) Police are looking for help identifying the suspect of a hit-and-run in Montgomery County last month.

On Thursday August 4, 77-year-old Julius Newton was killed when he was struck and dragged by a vehicle on Layhill Road as he was crossing the street.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has video footage of the vehicle they found from a local business’s security camera and from a camera on a Montgomery County Ride On Bus.

They also have photos of the suspected vehicle and an example of what the vehicle may look like. The vehicle is a 1993-97 Honda Accord, a light to medium color tan. A unique aspect of the vehicle is that color of passenger side front fender is darker than rest of vehicle.

“If there is a witness to the collision that hasn’t yet spoken to the police, we would like to speak to any other witnesses,” Nick Picerno of the Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit, said. “Additionally we would like to speak to anybody who knows of a vehicle that matches this description.”

“He didn’t deserve to pass the way that he did pass,” Pam Newton, the victim’s daughter, said. “Whoever the person is, male, female, they, if it’s more than one person- just give yourself up.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (240)-773-6620.

The Victim’s Rights Foundation is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver.
