(CHICAGO) Gov Bruce Rauner threatened to give the financially-troubled Chicago public schools less money instead of more.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel won’t play ball with Rauner for his anti-union agenda and so the governor tells Bill Cameron that $600 million that CPS gets in extra cash should go away.

“They get more money then the student population would indicate they should get and for them to ask for even more money beyond that is wrong,” Rauner said. “If anything we should reduce the $600 million amount and give Chicago less. There’s a push for that right now and if the mayor doesn’t help support, we could end up in a situation where Chicago schools will actually get less not more.”

And while taping Connected to Chicago for Sunday at 7 p.m., Rauner said he’s willing to resume tuition grants to colleges and universities in the state if the Democrats will give a green light to selling the Thompson Center and some pension reform.
