PC Notes:

Women: Liberty 68 – PC 60… The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team fell on the road to Liberty 68-60 on Tuesday evening… The Blue Hose were led by Taylor Petty, who shot 3-for-10 from beyond the arc and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line to finish with 16 points…. For more information on this game, click here…The team will have a home game at 2 pm tomorrow as they take on the Campbell Camels.

Men: Winthrop 75 – PC 52… The Winthrop men’s basketball team used a 17-0 run in the second half to break open a four-point game and take the 75-52 win over Presbyterian College in Big South action Wednesday night in Rock Hill, S.C. Ed Drew led the Blue Hose with 15 points and 10 rebounds…. For more information on this game, click here… The team will go on the road tomorrow as they travel to High Point for a 7 pm contest.

Local Notes:

CHS: The Red Devil JV teams hosted the Bulldogs of Newberry HS last night in the main gym at CHS.

Girls: Clinton 37 – Newberry 18…. Sorry no other details.

Boys: Newberry 49 – Clinton 47… The news is not quite as good in boys’ action as Newberry took a hard-fought 49-47 win… Coach Glenn played hard but a few mental errors late in the game lead to turnovers that wound up costing the Red Devils the game… Konnor Richardson and JD Payne led the Red Devils with 15 points each and Titus hood also chipped in 6 points.

LDHS:

Raiders at Wade Hampton…. Last night the Raider 9th grade boys’ basketball team and both JV teams traveled to Wade Hampton to take in the Generals.

Girls JV: Laurens 19 – W.H. 18… The Lady Raider JV team took a come from behind 18-18 win last night to improve their record to 2-5 and 1-0 in region play… The Raiders trailed 9-2 at the half but outscored the Generals 13-5 in the third quarter to take a 15-14 lead and then held on to take the win… Paula Abrams led the Raiders in scoring with 8 points and Aija Davis had 7.

JV Boys: Laurens 37 – W.H. 36… The JV boys’ game was also a close one as the Raiders took a 37-36 win… Leonard Williams had 11 points and the scored the game-winning layup… Jamir Booker had 9 points for the Raiders.

9th Grade Boys: W.H. 40 – Laurens 32…  The Raider 9th grade team did come up on the short end of a 40-32 score last night as their offense had trouble getting started in the first half they trailed 21-9 going into the locker room at the half…. They came back out in the 3rd quarter and outscored the Generals to pull within 1 (26-25) but just could not make the comeback… Amaji Hill was the only Raider in double-digits with 11 points

Raider Wrestling… The Raider wrestling team traveled to Greenwood Wednesday night and faced off against region foes Hillcrest and Mauldin two traditionally strong teams.

Hillcrest 69 – Laurens 12… The only Raider wrestler to pick up a win in action on the mats was Eric Diaz though Shokeil Moses did pick u one by forfeit… For complete match details, click here

Mauldin 53 – Laurens 24…. The Raiders had a little better luck against the Mauldin Mavericks but still fell by a score of 53-24… Zarquel Castro, Eric Diaz, Bud Jones and Will Hampton were all able to take falls over their opponents… For complete match details, click here.

Laurens Academy: The LA Crusaders traveled to Edgefield last night to take on the Patriots of Wardlaw Academy in varsity basketball action… Sorry but all I have id the final scores but they are good ones for Crusader fans.

Girls: LA 40 – Wardlaw 24

Boys: LA 61 Wardlaw 36

Middle School Basketball:

Northside Knights at Sanders (Yellow Jackets)

Girls: NSM 14 – Sanders 11 (2OT)… The Knights led 11-8 going into the 4th quarter when the Lady Jackets scored 3 points in that final quarter and held the Knights scoreless to send the game into overtime… Neither team scored in the first overtime but in the second Northside put 3 on the board to take a 14-11 win…. Sorry no scoring details.

Boys: NSM 54 – Sanders 40… Northside completed the sweep of Sanders by taking a 54-40 win in boys’ action… Coach JR Reid was proud of the team’s effort against a very talented Northside team… Shamare Dendy led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points.

Hickory Tavern Panthers at Clinton Middle School taking on the White Wildcat team.

Girls: HT 39 – CMS-W 8… The Lady Panthers of HT have a pretty good team this year and they showed it again last night by taking a 39-8 win over the Lady Wildcats… The Wildcats had trouble with the Panthers press all night long and had a lot of turnovers but never gave up… Raniya Jackson led the Panthers with  22 points and Sandajah Vance was also in double digits with 13 points….Alexis McGowan had 3 points to lead the Wildcats.

Boys: CMS-W 32 – HT 25… In boys’ action, the Wildcats turned the tables and took a 32-23 win over the panthers… The Panthers led 10-6 at the end of the 1st quarter but The Wildcats stormed back in the second quarter outscoring the Panthers 9-1 t take a 15-11 lead at the half and then went on to take the win… Nic Williams led the Wildcats with 13 points coming off the bench and also made his presence known blocking several Panther shots and pulling down numerous rebounds… Danny Belton had 5 points for the Wildcats and both Kimion Quarles and Ty Croft had 4 each…. The panthers were led by Collin Gambrel with 7 points while Preston Mahon had 6.
