PC Notes:

Coastal Carolina 48 – PC 17… Last Saturday the Blue Hose football team hosted the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina on Homecoming… The Homecoming crowd of about 4400 went home disappointed as Coastal took a 48-17 win… One problem for PC was the fact that they had two interceptions and a lost fumble which led to Coastal Points… For more information on the game, click here… The Blue Hose drop to 2-6 on the year and will have their last home game this Saturday when they host Liberty at Bailey Memorial Stadium in a Big South contest.

CHS:

Tennis: CHS 4 – Seneca 3… Yesterday the Lady Red Devil tennis team traveled to Seneca to take on the Lady Bobcats in a second round match of the State Class-AAA Playoffs… Good news for Red Devil fans as they returned home with a hard fought 4-3 win… Gracie Waldron, Elizabeth Jones and Mary Katherine Kelly all picked up wins in singles action… The Red Devils fourth and deciding win came off the rackets of Waldron and Jones as they teamed up to form the #1 doubles team and defeat their opponent 6-0 and 6-2… The Red Devils are now 15-3 overall and advance to the third round of play tomorrow… They will play the4 winner of the Woodruff at Southside match last night… If Southside won the match will be at Southside… If Woodruff won then the Red Devils will host.

Volleyball: Crescent 3 – Clinton 0… Now I don’t have any details other than the final score of the Clinton at Crescent second round playoff match and that score is not good news for Red Devil fans as Crescent took a 3-0 win to end the Red Devils season… If I get more details I will update you later.

Laurens Academy: Cross Country… Last Saturday the Crusader boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Heathwood Hall to participate in the SCISA 2016 State Cross Country Meet… Let’s catch up on how they did.

Girls… As a team the Lady Crusaders finished third in Class-A just 10 points behind the first place Holy Trinity Classical and 3 behind second place Cambridge Academy… The top runner for LA was Ruthie Moore who finished 6th overall with a time of 23:16:95 a little over 3 minutes behind the number 1 runner in the class… Blair Quarles finished 9th overall and Julia Kerber 11th overall… Others finishing for the Lady Crusaders and their overall finish were Emily Whitehead 22, Morgan Marlett 27 and Florence Mitchell 38 pot of 51 runners in Class-A… To see the complete results for Class-A Girls with times and position finishes, click here.

Boys… As a team the Crusaders finished fifth 45 points behind first place finisher Holy Trinity Classical… The top finisher for the Crusaders was Dawson Foster who finished 14th … Scott Anderson finished 18th and Wil Tindal 20th to give the Crusaders 3 runners who finished in the top 20 out of 68 runners… Noah Moore finished 31st and Luke Kerber 34th… Again to see the results for the entire Class A Boys including times and finishes, click here.

World Series

Game 6 Tonight in Cleveland… True MLB fans know that the Cleveland Indians won games 3 & 4 in Chicago on Friday and Saturday by scores of 1-0 and 7-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the best of 7 series… The Cubbies came back to take Sunday’s game by a score of 73-2 to force the series into game 6 which will be tonight in Cleveland starting at 8 pm… The Cubs have to win tonight to even the series and have a shot to win it tomorrow night.

Broadcast Notes

Varsity Football: Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be Friday, November when Laurens host the 4th place team in Region I-AAAAA (most likely Woodmont) in the start of playoff action.… I hope you can make it to the game as the Raiders can secure and opening round home game in the playoffs with a win… We will go live about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and King Dixon adding his analysis of the game… Mike Hughes will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set on 95.7… Also remember the game will be streamed live at www.wlbg.com.… Please make plans to come out and cheer on the Raiders as they start down the playoff road which ends in Columbia with the State Finals on December 17th at Williams Brice Stadium.

Chicken Stew Fund Raiser for Adair Outdoor Education Center… The Joe R Adair Outdoor Education Center is having a chicken stew fundraiser to help the center that is used by both Laurens School Districts 55 & 56… The center host classes in all age ranges and its personnel also go to the school to help enhance the both districts students education about the natural world around them… With district budgets being tight, the money will be use to help maintain the facility and accomplish different projects at the center… The stew is $7 per quart and pre-orders are being accepted… The stew will be available at the center on Friday, Nov. 4th and should be picked up between 11am and 4 pm… The center is located at 110 Scout Creek Court, Laurens down behind EB Morse… A limited number of quarts will be available for walk-ups that day.

Laurens County Touchdown Club… The Laurens County Touchdown Club will have its next meeting on Friday, 11-4-16 where the guest speaker is scheduled to be Mike Ayers Head Coach of the Wofford Terriers… If you would like to see the entire schedule or are interested in becoming a sponsor, click here and it will carry you to a posting in our Between the Lines section where that information is available… To see videos of past meetings click here.

LCCC Oyster Roast… Mark your calendars for November 10th because that is when the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their ninth Annual College Football Fan Challenge Oyster Roast… Again this year the menu will have all you can eat ands drink steamed oysters, low country boil and gumbo… College football celebrities will be on hand as there will be a silent and live auction… The gates will open at 5 pm and food will be served at 6 pm… now tickets for the event are $40 and you can get them at the Chamber of Commerce Office or you can order them online by clicking here… For more information call the chamber at 864-833-2716

Softball Chicken Stew Fundraiser… The Laurens Raider Varsity and JV Softball teams are selling quarts of chicken stew as a fundraiser for the softball programs… The teams will be selling options on the stew beginning October 1, 2016 and the market will close on November 11, 2016… All chicken stew quarts will be available for pick up on November 12th… This fabulous stew will be sold for $7.00 per quart… To purchase your “Chicken Stew for the Soul,” please see any softball player, their parents, or contact Michelle Gibbs (mgibbs@laurens55.org).
