Greer 40 – Clinton 8… The Greer Yellow Jackets came into Wilder Stadium last Friday night ranked #1 in Class-AAA and showed at least on that night why they are deserving of that ranking as they defeated the Red Devils 40-8… The score was only 13-0 at the half and Clinton got close to breaking the goal line a couple of times in the first half but fell short… Greer pulled away in the third quarter as they scored early on a 58 yd drive and then intercepted a Clinton pass and returned it for a TD a short time later… Greer would tack on another score before the Red Devils finally put points on the scoreboard with 3:14 left in the period on a 23 yd pass from Charlie Craven to Tay Cook… Kris Holmes added the 2-point PAT to make the score 33-8… However Greer returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD… Though the score was one-sided, the statistics were not that way… Clinton actually had 15 first downs to Greer’s 13… Total yards did favor Greer but only 62 yards more as Greer had 365 to Clinton’s 303… Kris Holmes was the leading rusher for the Red Devils with 96 net yds… For more game statistics, click on the following: CHS vs GHS Quick 8-28-15

BHP 21 – Laurens 15…. The Laurens Raiders opened up their season as they traveled to BHP to take on the Bears… The Raiders jumped out to a 15-7 lead at the half but then would be held scoreless the rest of the way as the Bears came back to take a 21-15 win…      DQ Floyd scored the Raiders 1st TD on a 6 yd run… Later Zed Anderson returned a short BHP punt 28 yds for a TD… The Raiders last score came on a 27 yd field goal by Irvin Angeles…. This score was set up by Anderson recovering a BHP fumble and returning it to the BHP 19…. For statistics on the game, on the following: Laurens at BHP Short Stats  … The following is a more complete narrative of the game…

The Raiders held the Bears on their 1st possession and forces a punt taking over at the Bears 39. On the first play from scrimmage the Raiders DQ Floyd was hit and stripped of the ball with the Bears recovering at the BHP 39….They then drove and scored with 5:57 left in the 1st quarter and with the PAT led 7-0…Laurens responded by driving 72 yds and scoring with 59.1 sec left in 1st quarter on a 6 yd TD by DQ Floyd on a last second pitch by Toby Jackson… Laurens had a bad snap on PAT and could not get it off: 7-6 Bears….Later in the 2nd quarter the Raiders held the Bears and forced a punt which was very short and did not go very far past line of scrimmage and started to take a Laurens bounce… Instead of downing the ball to prevent Laurens from getting better position as it bounced backwards, they stayed away from it… Zed Anderson noted their “indifference” and scooped it up and went 27 yds for the TD with 8:15 left in the half… PAT missed and score stood 12-7 Raiders…Laurens picked up what would prove to be their final points of the game on a 27 yd field goal by Irvin Angeles with 4:03 left on the half.. This score was set up by Anderson recovering a BHP fumble at the Raider 40 yd line and returning it to the Bear’s 19…The score remained 15-7 Raiders until the Bears got on the scoreboard with 1:44 left n the 3rd quarter and the Bears went for 2 and were denied so that made the score 15-13 Raiders…Both teams had trouble sustaining drives from that point on and the Bears capitalized on a muffed punt snap that the Raiders punter picked up and tried to get off only to have the punt blocked and returned for a 25 yd TD with 7:35 remaining in the game… The Bears picked up the 2-point conversion on a pass to make the score 21-15…Laurens would get the ball 2 more times but was not able to move the ball out of their territory as BHP took the win…After the contest Coach Liner pointed out special team problems as a major contributor to the loss along with missed opportunities and penalties at absolutely the wrong time…Raiders travel to Spring Valley next Friday

Laurens Academy

Faith Christian 76 – Laurens Academy 50… For the second week in a row, the Laurens Academy Crusaders were involved in a shootout and for the second week they came up on the short end of a 76-50 score as Faith Christian took the win at the Academy last Friday night… F.C led 38-24 at the half and to their credit the Crusaders never gave up but miscues and fatigue hurt the Crusaders efforts… One of the scores in the 2nd half for the Crusaders came on a 50 yd pass from Ryan Holmes to Josh Urwick… They also connected on a 40 yd scoring play and a 5 yd score… Noah Stribling also caught a scoring pass and a 2-point conversion.
