LOCAL NOTES:

Final Games Recap for Clinton 9-10 All-Star Team…. Last week I told you about the Clinton 9-10 AAA Dixie Youth quest to win the World Series in Lexington coming up a little short as they were eliminated on Wednesday and finished in third place… At that time I did not have Coach Matt Stewart’s recap of the last two games… Well I have hose now and if you are interested in them, click on the following link to see his recaps… Thanks to Coach Stewart!!    Click Here

Braves: The Braves concluded a 3-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and their current home stand over the weekend at Turner Field.

Friday: Braves 3 – D-Backs 2…. On Friday the Braves got just enough offense to give Julio Teheran a 2-1 win over the D-Backs… …. Teheran pitched 6 innings giving up 1 run on 7 hits while striking out 7 & walking 2…. Cameron Maybin had 2 hits and 2 RBIs to lead the Braves offense.

Saturday: D-Backs 8 – Braves 4… On Saturday the D-Backs rebounded taking and 8-4 win over the Braves… The D-Backs led 6-0 going into the 8th inning when the Braves picked up all 4 of their runs in the bottom of the inning but gave 2 of them back in the top of the 9th inning… The Braves got all 4 of their runs after 2 were out with the big hit being a 2-run homer by Nick Swisher.

Sunday: Braves 2 – D-Backs 1 (10)… Then yesterday the Braves picked up a series win by defeating Arizona 2-1 in 10 innings…. Cameron Maybin hit a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Braves a win…. The Braves start a road trip today with the first stop being in San Diego tonight to take on the Padres.

Drive: The Greenville Drive also finished a home stand this weekend as they hosted the Charleston RiverDogs in a 3-game series.

Friday: RiverDogs 6 – Drive 2…. Friday night the Drive just could not generate much offense as they fell 6-2 to the RiverDogs… The Drive had only 2 hits and one of those was a 2-run homer by Rafael Devers in the 3rd inning.

Saturday: Drive 8 – RiverDogs 6… Then on Saturday the Drive did get 7 hits to the RiverDogs 8 but did manage to win by a score of 8-6…. The Drive scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning and then held Charleston scoreless in the 9th to get the come from behind win.

Sunday: RiverDogs 6 – Drive 2… Then yesterday the teams concluded their series with the RiverDogs taking a 6-2 win… Again the Drive offense struggled as the RiverDogs belted out 14 hits to the Drive’s 5…. The Drive start a road trip tonight with the first stop being in Greensboro.

NFL

Carolina Panthers… By now most of you Panther fans know that the Panthers took an exiting 25-24 win over the Bills in Buffalo last Friday night…The Panthers had a 42 yard TD with 54 seconds left and then added the 2-point conversion to take the win… The Carolina Panthers will be practicing this morning between 3:10 – 5:30 at Wofford College… Now for most anything you might want to know about the Carolina Panther training camp and schedule, click here.

Countdown to Start of Football Season: Hang on football fans it’s only 4 days until Clinton opens up its football season hosting AC Flora and Laurens Academy opens at Coastal Christian, 11 days until Laurens travels to BHP and 20 days until PC opens up at Miami (Ohio).

Giving Back Football Camp… Coach Charles Jones of North South Sports Academy in Charlotte, former coach in the Gray Court Community will put on a free Football Clinic for the community with his staff from the North South Sports Academy. The clinic will be held at Gray Court – Owings School on Saturday, August 22. The camp will be from 10AM until 2PM for grades 4-8. Sign in will start at 9AM. Coach Jones has a love for his home town and wants to give back to his roots. He hopes to see all of his former players out with their kids.

Season Football Tickets on Sale… Season football tickets are now on sale for the 2015 football season…  Ginger Eaton (938-1844) will sell the tickets in the front office at CHS…  Prices are $40/ticket, including a parking pass; only one parking pass per family…  Senior citizens’ tickets are free…  Senior citizens may purchase a parking pass for $20…The Red Devils have five home games this year, starting on August 21 against A. C. Flora…  Kickoff for all home games is 7:30.

1975 & 1985 State Championship Teams To Be Honored… The CHS Booster Club will host a celebration of the 1975 & 1985 state championship football teams on Friday, Sept. 4, in Wilder Stadium during the varsity football game versus Newberry.  All COACHES, PLAYERS, CHEERLEADERS, BAND MEMBERS from these teams are invited to come and celebrate these accomplishments.  More information will be provided.  Check the website regularly for updates.  Contact Nickie Templeton at 833-0817 for more information.

Laurens Century Club… Membership is now open for the 2015 Laurens Athletics Century Club.  The Club offers season tickets to not only football games but other athletic events at LDHS. There is also reserved parking and a limited number of tailgating spaces available for an additional charge.. Raider Football Fundraiser… With athletic budgets stretched tight, most all schools have to raise funds to supplement their budget for much needed items… The Laurens Raider football team is no exception… The football team is selling a card with reusable discount card that has specials at many of the local restaurants and some other type businesses… The discounts on these cards will be good through 8-31-16… The cost is $20 and the cards can be purchased from any member of the football teams or coaches… There is an added benefit to these cards not available before… There is also away to use them to get discounts in other parts of the state where the same company has other schools selling similar cards… You download an app from the app store, enter a code on the cards and you are set to take advantage in other parts of the state…. See one of the players or coaches to get yours… I did.

PC:

PC opens up their 2015 football th and their home opener is Saturday. Laurens YMCA:

Fall Soccer… Registration is now open for fall soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA. Through Sept. 2nd… It is open to youth ages 3-15 and the cost is $40 for Y members and $50 for non-members…Practice will begin on Sept. 3rd at 5:45… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.

Clinton YMCA

Flag Football & Cheerleading… Registration is now open at the Clinton YMCA for flag football and cheerleading… Flag football will be for 3 age groups: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12…. The cost is $45 for YMCA members who live in the Clinton City limits and $50 for members who live outside the Clinton city limits… For nonmembers who live inside the city the cost is $60 and for non-members outside the city is $65…. City of Laurens Parks & Recreation
