The Farm Progress Show is one of the biggest outdoor farm shows in the US and always brings out new equipment for farmers to see. This year’s show in Decatur is no exception. Most of the major farm equipment makers have rolled out their new models, all shiny and new. But, with prices below the cost of production and many Indiana crops in ruin, it is doubtful there will be too many buyers at this year’s show.

John Deere is helping customers improve productivity and profitability during harvest with enhancements to its grain harvesting equipment lineup. For model year 2016, the company is adding performance boosting features to its S-Series Combines, 600C Series Corn Heads, and 600F HydraFlex Draper Platforms, as well as introducing a new 12-row folding corn head. John Deere also announces the addition of three new models to its lineup of 8000 Series Self-Propelled Forage Harvesters. These machines offer forage producers more productivity, increased uptime, decreased cost of operation, and are designed with the latest forage harvesting technology. Visiting the mammoth Deere display will also give growers a chance to look at some new green tractors. The 6E Series Tractors have been added to the 6 Family Tractor lineup, which features enhanced performance, added versatility, and greater value to the existing family of high-horsepower utility tractors. Deere will also be showing off its first-ever 4-track tractor, adding to its extensive line of high horsepower 9R Series wheeled and 9RT Series 2-track tractors. The four new 9RX Tractor models – which range from 470 to 620 engine horsepower – feature a large, robust undercarriage and track system engineered to provide superior power, durability, and improved ride quality, especially when handling large implements in the field.

There is also plenty of new red equipment at the show. Engineered with more muscle, the new 660-gallon-capacity Patriot® 2250 sprayer from Case IH, features best-in-class horsepower, along with the fuel efficiency that comes with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)-only emissions technology. The new Case IH True-Tandem 375 disk harrow — featuring a pull frame with heavy-walled tubing, a spring-cushioned hitch, 24-inch Earth Metal® blades and a new mounted TigerPaw™ Crumbler® option — delivers a new standard for ruggedness and agronomics. Operator comfort and greater productivity highlight new enhancements to the 2016 Case IH lineup of high-horsepower tractors and combines. Led by significant updates to the Axial-Flow 140 series combines, the 2016 line also features innovative new offerings across the iconic Steiger tractor series. The company’s AFS Connect advanced farm management system also has received a number of upgrades, including two-way wireless data transfer and some of the widest coverage available.

Meanwhile, Kubota Tractor is making news at the show buy giving away equipment. Kubota Tractor Corporation announced its second recipient of a donated Kubota L-Series compact tractor in the “Geared To Give” program, a joint effort in partnership with the Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC). Blueberry farmer and military veteran, Jason Kerr of Kerr’s Berry Farm in Dewitt, Iowa, was recognized in a special ceremony by Kubota and FVC executives as well as Kerr’s local Iowa Kubota dealer, Kunau Implement. The program, which launched in March, provides financial support to FVC and donated Kubota equipment to U.S. military veterans pursuing a future in farming. “We’re proud to help make a difference in the lives of farmer veterans in America,” said Todd Stucke, Kubota vice president of sales, marketing and product support. “Kubota’s partnership with FVC is a natural fit not only because of the organization’s emphasis on agriculture, but because of its national reach, which allows our 1,100 dealers across the country an opportunity to get involved with this cause.”
