TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)— A man was found dead in an overturned vehicle in the Rodgers Forge neighborhood of Towson early Wednesday morning.

Mike Schuh has more on what police are saying may have happened.

Those who live in this quiet collection of well kept homes couldn’t be more shocked. Many nearby were awakened either by the sound of gunshots or the high speed crash a few seconds later.

It’s not unusual to see neighbors gathering to talk in the close knit community of Rodgers Forge but not about the shell casings in the street. Not about the homicide detectives searching for clues. A not about the seven gunshots that woke them.

“This is mind blowing and very upsetting to all of us that it’s now come this close,” said Scott, a Rodgers Forge resident.

While the shooting happened at the intersection of Murdock Road and Blenheim Road, the man inside the car sped down the road and crashed about three fourths of the way down.

The blocks there are long, and Murdock Road has a slight curve.

The driver of Silver Dodge never made the curve.

He hit a parked car, sending his small SUV into the air.

“I came to the bathroom here, opened the blinds and saw some neighbors running outside ‘Call 911! Call 911,’ and saw the overturned car,” said Colin Gaynor, who heard the crash.

When rescuers arrived, they found the man inside.

“Homicide detectives were called in and they are currently investigating,” said Cpl. JB Wachter, Baltimore County Police.

Police aren’t saying much, but neighbors hope whatever happened didn’t involve someone from the neighborhood.

They wonder if their quiet spot was some sort of meeting place exactly because it is so quiet.

“Why not? You rarely see cops coming through here because there’s really no reason to come through here because it’s such a quiet . . . there’s rarely any crime here,” Gaynor said.

Police are withholding many details about this incident. They are not releasing the man’s identity but did confirm that he appears to an adult.

The public affairs officer couldn’t provide eyewitness news with any statistics this morning, but tells us that violent crime is rare in that neighborhood.
