JIM FALLS, WI – Mother’s Day racing at Eagle Valley Speedway was brought by River Country Coop with moderate temperatures ruling the evening as Eagle Valley along with neighboring Rice Lake Speedway being the only local WISSOTA tracks to have run races this year. All six classes were in action with the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, EVS Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets taking to the track for competition. Feature winners included Jesse Glenz, Shane Kisling, Shane Halopka, Mike Knudtson, Todd Roshell, and Scott Westaby.

Matt Leer and Mike Anderson led the Modified feature to the green and the two battled hard for the high side position as Leer led the first lap. They continued to run one and two for several laps until a midrace caution bunched the field. On the restart, Jesse Glenz powered into second place using the lower groove and set out after Leer. Anderson and Jake Hartung battled for third in the same sort of high side versus low side fight. With one lap to go, Glenz was able to look to the inside of Leer and in the final corner, he edged into the lead. The two drag raced to a very close side by side finish. Hartung won the battle for third as Anderson and Jay Richardson rounded out the top five.

Troy Falkner and Shane Kisling made up the front row of the Super Stock feature and Kisling drove to the lead and never looked back. Fifth starting Curt Myers raced to second position and remained close enough to strike if Kisling were to have made an error, however, that never happened. Tommy Richards, Tony Falkner, and Mark Stender rounded out the top five after having their own multi lap battle for third which occurred a great distance behind the leaders.

Bob Wood and Jeff Klopstein Jr. paced the Midwest Modified feature that was full of hard racing. Wood led the first lap as forth starting Shane Halopka applied serious pressure. Halopka led lap two as seventh starting Michael Truscott quickly raced to third but brought out the caution after spinning on his own. Halopka led them to the green flag and sixth starting Cory Crapser moved into second to challenge for the lead. Crapser briefly took the lead on a slide job in turns three and four but Halopka was regaining the point at the opposite end of the track on the next circuit. The two leaders got together and Halopka spun. Crapser was called for the caution and sent to the back of the field. Halopka went on to win followed by a fast Nick Koehler. Truscott made a strong run from the back row after his spin to finish third. Crapser moved to fourth via a combination of a fast race car and heavy attrition and Nathan Thums finished fifth.

Danny Richards and Adam Soltis showed the way to the green in the Street Stock feature with Richards securing the early lead. The two raced hard for position as a backstretch crash eliminated a visibly angry Richards, Cody Kummer, and relegated Soltis to the rear for the restart. Mike Knudtson led the field to the restart and tried to pull away but Sam Fankhauser battled him on the low side. Fankhauser made a last lap attempt for the lead in turns three and four and was in the lead as they entered the front stretch. However, Knudtson’s high side momentum carried him to a side by side victory at the finish line. Soltis finished third, followed by Travis Hazelton and Street Stock rookie Jake Hanson who had his strongest run of the young season.

The Pure Stock feature had Mike Knopps and Todd Roshell in the front row with Roshell leading early and often, going cover to cover for the win. Sixth starting George Richards secured second as Jesse Bryant, Jeremy Dahl, and Hunter VanGilder closed out the top five.

The Hornet feature came to the green led by Chuck Wald and Jay Welk as Welk took the lead. He was chased by Scott Westaby and Mark McQuiston. On the same lap Welk and McQuiston broke down and brought out the caution. On the restart, Westaby drove to a commanding lead and won going away. Buck Lennox and Chuck Wald, the only remaining running cars filled out the top three.
