KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — Police were at three different schools in Hancock and Henry counties on Thursday after a bomb threat.
Hancock County dispatchers said Knightstown Police Department received a threat against Knightstown Intermediate School, Tri Jr./Sr. High and Eastern Hancock High School. The police department received the call around 12:15 p.m.
Students from Knightstown Intermediate School were evacuated to Knightstown High School, according to the school district, so police could search the building.
Thursday afternoon, Charles A. Beard Memorial Schools posted on their website that they received an “all clear” after the bomb threat that occurred at Knightstown Intermediate School. The post said “Knightstown Police, IMPD, Indiana State Police, and the Henry County Sherriff’s Department have worked diligently to ensure that the school is safe.”
On Friday, all Charles A. Beard Memorial Schools will operate on normal procedures, the school posted. Thursday night’s baseball game vs. Morristown and the Jr. High track meet at Wes Del were canceled because of the threat at Knightstown Intermediate School. School officials said they would announce when those games would be rescheduled.
Eastern Hancock evacuated its campus due to the threat. K-9s from the sheriff’s department were checking the school.
South Henry Superintendent Wes Hammond said Tri Jr./Sr. High School and Tri Elementary School were both evacuated because the buildings are somewhat connected. All children were sent to the football field while investigators searched the building. Nothing was found on an initial visual search, he said, but bomb dogs were being sent in around 2:40 p.m.
Hammond said the schools followed their safety plans appropriately. The district had six school safety specialists and four school resource officers on hand.
