RNS Institute of Technology, Bangalore was started in 2001 with a mission to impart education in the field of engineering and technology and management. The institute is the culmination of the dream and vision of Dr. R. N. Shetty the chairman of Murudeshwar Group of Companies. RNSIT isan institution which nourishes and produces the best of engineering talents in the country. RN Shetty Institute of Technology (RNSIT) is located in the Channasandra area of Rajarajeshwari off Uttarahalli-Kengeri main road. It is just 14.2 kilometers from Majestic via Mysore Road. Accessibility is not an issue as BMTC buses ply close to the college at regular intervals of time. To name a few: 225C, 375A, 378, BC6. The college also provides bus services with a fleet of 10 buses and a van. In addition to this the Institution is very close to Global Village a major IT hub of the city.

RNSIT offers a wide range of degree courses in engineering for the young minds who desire to achieve technical knowledge, industry insights and soft skills. Here students are trained as skilled future professionals. The various departments in the college in the college fall under three basic heads:-

College campus is spread over 108 acres with ample space and is one of the largest campuses in Karnataka. The campus has lots of green cover in the campus, every building is surrounded with trees and when my friends from other colleges like Reva, MVJ tell me yhay their college has Air Conditioners in every class rooms, I tell them” we have natural, efficient and a greener way to keep our college surroundings cool and pleasant”

The campus consists of a total of 9 blocks. The college aims to provide all round modern facilities to students through its state of the art laboratories, library, a fitness center and other sporting and recreational activities. The college has a basketball court, a volleyball court, a cricket field and an indoor badminton stadium and the dormitory has table tennis tables and carom boards. The college has an indoor Gym with 12  Smith Machine , Roman Chair , Mutipurpose Bench , Barbell Weights, Treadmill etc. The gym is studio quality and highly maintained in every aspect be it cleanliness, ventilation and equipments. Later on when I joined the gym I discovered that the trainer was highly motivating and his words had the power to push you past your limits. He always used to say “The only way to know your limit is to get past it”, I also became an ardent believer of this motto. But unlike other commercial and profit oriented gyms the college gym was very cheap costing only 150 bucks for one semester. The gym is very effective and I am the living proof of that within 3 semesters I transformed from a 56 kg to a 78kg guy. All credits to the gym facility and the food served on campus at the hostel and the canteen. The college campus also hosts a temple within its premises for those seeking the divine intervention. One thing I appreciate is the secularism this institution promotes, the college director has given some empty rooms to the students for conducting Namaz on their request. The presence of a temple and a place for Namazis commendable and rare in itself.

The college is affiliated to Visvesvariah Technical University (VTU) and is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and is also NBA accrediated. RNSIT is one of the top AICTE approved engineering colleges in Karnataka. The institution has the curriculum as required by the University which includes well quipped labs, spacious classrooms, extensive library and separate hostel for boys and girls. The focus is to provide the best possible education that translates into lifetime learning. RNSIT offers a wide range of engineering courses that has international recognition. All the academic facilities like classrooms, labs, Wi-Fi & library are up to the international standards.

The classrooms are very well lighted, ventilated and comfortable in every aspect and are quite spacious and big so it’s a hidden advantage for the back benchers. The labs have state of the artinfrastructure, up to date systems and very co-operative, friendly, knowledgeable and experienced teachers and lab instructors. They make sure you learn and understand the experiments and not just mug up the programs or procedure without understanding a bit. Labs are the real application and spirit of engineering and this is what gives engineering graduates an edge over a regular graduate that is their skill and ability to apply their technical knowledge in the real world situations and this skill is developed overtime by the labs.

selected major was Electrical and Electronics Engineering and labs are very important particularly for this specific branch of engineering. The labs deal with high voltage experiments involving three phase line voltages of over 230 volts and dc voltages of high magnitudes in Transformer and Induction Machines and DC and Synchronous Machine Labs, these labs also have their corresponding theory papers. These labs and theory papers are the real core electrical topics. The labs develop an insight and deep understanding of the papers and develop the essence of electrical engineering. The electrical labs are the best in the whole of Karnatakain terms of infrastructure. We came to realize this at the time of the lab externals when we saw that even some externals were clue less about the experiments and when we aced the viva sessions of the lab externals as we were so well prepared by the time of the lab internals thanks to our faculty members and lab instructors. We have almost 100% lab results most of the time even in the toughest labs which are considered mass back labs.

All the other labs in other departments are also very good be it Computer Science Department, Information Science, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Instrumentation(IT), Mechanical or the MCA department. Labs have always been a strong part of a RNSITian, while for some in other colleges labs turn out to be their worst nightmares. Don’t believe me just ask any random student pursuing engineering in any college in Bangalore and he would tell you the same thing.

The college campus is fully wifi enabled with a bandwidth of 10Mbps, and the library has a vast collection of books, journals and publications. The library has set of systems for browsing which are 17 in number and are located inside the library. The library is subscribed to IEEE – IEL Online through INDEST – AICTE consortium by paying Rs. 4 lakhs to support library users project works, technical reports, and R & D works. The college library is open from 8 in the morning till midnight and the best part is that outside students are allowed to use the library facilities. The library has a long term plan to connect to other renowned libraries like CPRI, ISRO, NAL and IISc. A separate CD library is also maintained with a collection of 2200 CDs and 4 separate computers. The library is so spacious that I have never seen it completely occupied even at the time of exams.

The college was built with the mission of Building RNSIT into a world class institution and is continuously striving towards this end. The college has made a mark for itself in such a short duration of time making it up to the top of ranking list of colleges in the Karnataka region and the pace at which the institution is growing is remarkable with continuously improving infrastructure, placements and academics. The teaching faculty and the management are highly non-interfering and proactive. The faculty members are highly committed and dedicated and really helping.

RNSIT has a separate department for placement and training. The department enhances the employablility of a student by conducting various training programs to brush up the skills required for placements like quantitative skills, mathematical skills logical reasoning, soft skills and communication skills. These programs are conducted by both in house professionals and corporate professionals. The department also gets institutes on campus for providing training to interested students CAT/GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/GATE.

The placement department has also tied up with online test providers and training portals/companies. It is due to the constant efforts by the placement department that the placement statistics are ever improving and there has never been a recession at the RNSIT campus.

The placement department brings in lots of companies with different job profiles like core companies like Robert Bosch, etc. IT companies like Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, etc. and some marketing, management companies. The pay package varies right from 1.5LPA to 24LPA, and believe me almost gets a job before leaving this campus including the ones without aggregate.

RNSIT is considered the best institution in terms of teaching in the whole of Bangalore. The computer science department and the MBA department are the best in the entire university. Go to any XEROX shop near a college where they have MBA you will find RNSIT MBA notes there. The computer science department has highly experienced and skilled teachers with an average teaching experience of 11.94 years, and offers both an M Tech and PhD/MSc (Engg) also known as the R&D Centre. All the other departments also offer M Tech Courses. The presence of M Tech courses shows that the faculty are highly knowledgeable and qualified. It is because of excellent academics, superb and expanding infrastructure and phenomenal placement statistics that inspite of RNSIT being a new institution it is standing in the big league close to the old big five colleges of the city.

The mission of the college is to impart high quality education in Engineering and Technology and management with a difference enabling students to excel in their career. At RNSIT, this challenge is achieved by highly scientific approach. It provides effective learning opportunities through its very well qualified and committed staff.  Pick any teacher at RNSIT and he/she would have most probably been a HOD at some other college or at least a senior faculty members. The most amazing part is the balance in the teaching faculty composition comprising of teachers with a lot of teaching experience of over 10-15 years and on the other hand there are many teachers who had worked quite successfully in the industry but they switched to teaching just for the passion of it. This has a very positive effect on the students when they guide the students for their professional lives ahead in the industry by giving them inside information of the industry, and when they tell us stories about their work life when the class gets a bit dull and the mood swings low. While the experienced teachers are like an absolute authority in their field and are best at what they do.

The hostel facilities are superb and the rooms are allotted on a sharing basis. The hostel is highly affordable and costs only 40000 rupees for a year including food and wifi. The food is good compared to other college hostels, the south Indian food and the breakfast are delicious but the north indian food is average. But, the college is surrounded by eateries and the good thing about the college location is that the market outside is very student centric and economical. The food outside is very good and that too without pinching a hole in your pocket, there are lots of shop so there is lots of option and variety. So, food can never be a problem for anyone in this college. The college management pay proper attention to the hostel addressing all the student grievances in the least possible time. The hostel mess serves tea at night at the time of exam, this is a lifesaver for many who have to stay up all night in the examination period.

In addition to all this the hostel also has washing machines for use by the students and the hostel menu is prepared by the students. There is a well-furnished guest room for the parents of the students who visit the hostel.

As per my knowledge there has been no cases of ragging or so called interaction so far in the hostel premises. So, leave behind the possibility of registered ragging cases in the police station or even the college authorities. The college authorities are very supportive and friendly otherwise, but when it comes to ragging they are very serious and they do not tolerate it.

The girls’ hostel has a separate building which is on campus, the girls’ hostel is very safe. The parents of a girl need not worry about their child while she is in the college hostel or campus as the campus is closely monitored at all times using CCTV cameras.

The RNSIT canteen serves delicious vegetarian food including both north indian and south indian dishes. The canteen is very clean and economical and is rated as the best canteen in Bangalore colleges according to a reputed news daily. The canteen is very spacious so everyone gets a place even in the peak rush hours like the lunch break, without any commotion.

There are numerous fests on the campus that is the MBA fest and different department fests and hostel fests. The number of fests going on add charm to the college campus and make the environment just as it should be for a college full of young, lively and energetic people. The fest makes the semester happening and something to look up to. The fests are very famous in the city and attract lots of people from different colleges throughout Karnataka. The fests are very good and a place to be at. The crowd at the fest is very good and cultured. At the time of fest also there is no parking problem as the college campus has three parking spots. The ramp walk team of RNSIT is the best in whole of Bangalore winning the first prize in different colleges.

In Pantheon 2014, Abhishek Bhatia of the college got his name in the Limca book of Records for making a mosaic of our respected chairman Dr. RN Shetty using rubic cubes which was the biggest rubic cube mosaic at that time. The mosaic was built using a whopping 16,120 rubic cubes. The mosaic took 3 days to make and measures around 7X7 metres and weights nearly 800 kilograms.

The college also has a bank with ATM facility on campus, which makes the payment of fees and collection of money from scholarship hostel deposits very convenient. The college also has 24 hour medical facility in collaboration with Manipal Hospital. The college also provides scholarships to the performing and economically challenged students. The college also encourages teachers to enhance their skill and qualifications by getting PhD and learning latest software packages like AutoCAD, etc. The college also provides students with medical coverage in case of any accidents, disease or hospitalization. The college also provides health insurance to its employees. The college management is very approachable and address the grievances within no time.

RNSIT does not believe in cent percent attendance and over the edge discipline, discipline is required which is maintained but too much of discipline takes away your freedom. If you manage your academics and are involved in some mini projects or some extra-curricular activities they do not nag you for attendance. The college is not profit oriented and does not make students cough out heavy fines for attendance.

Many students join an engineering college but very few end up becoming an engineer. At RNS almost everyone completes his/her degree as the pass percentage and student performance is good. All credits to the joint effort of the teachers, management and of course the students. I can never thank my teachers enough for their help, support and encouragement. They took out time for me and had to go through the pain to make me understand the concepts.

Now when I am at the verge of parting from this institution and reflect upon my past four years in this college I realize who much I grew as a person, this college completely transformed my personality and my perspective. Perspective or point of view is very important I quote my teacher Ms. Sindhu Rao on this, she once said, “Things remain the same, the only that changes is your perspective”. I learnt a lot things from this place and the people here not only technical but a lot about life and people.
