NITTE MEENAKSHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (NMIT) is an autonomous institute affiliated to VISVESWARAYA TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY (VTU) which is situated near Kempegowda International Airport, BENGALURU. It was founded in the year 2001 and is a sister concern of NMAM, Mangalore. It is ranked a one of the top college in BENGALURU.
AN OVERVIEW
There are many features to consider which makes NMIT different and reputed among other colleges. This institute has obtained an autonomous tag which in itself makes it superior to colleges. Out of 82 engineering colleges in BENGALURU, only 7 college are autonomous and NMIT is one among them. NMIT achieved this tag in a short span of time (5 years). It is the youngest college of BENGALURU to achieve this position.An autonomous institute has a lot of advantages.
Institution had the authority to introduce any subject in any semester provided the subjects are all VTU prescribed.
The institute need not follow VTU’s syllabus or curriculum.
Exam is conducted as per the institute’s choice and the time slots are decided solely by them.
Results are announced faster which helps in faster academic progress which in turn is something every student will be looking forward to.
The college is one among few who were selected by the Govt. of India for World Bank Funding under TEQUIP phase 2, which defines the class of this institution as it almost left behind all the top colleges and won this prestigious funding which financially helps the college students and teachers to learn and adopt new technology. TEQUIP stands for Technical Education through Quality Improvement Program is a World Bank initiative under which they select very few colleges throughout the country and help them financially to uplift their technical standards. In total, there are 4 colleges in this list and NMIT is also one among them.Due to this reason, NMIT is not only a technical institution, it also offers diploma, management and pre university course (PUC) in the same campus, which is not available in other colleges.
Out of 82 engineering college of BENGALURU, NMIT is on 11th position; the success of this position is because of its exam pattern. Exam pattern are arranged in such a systematic way which provide flexibility to the students, students never comes under pressure during the semester which is a boon for scoring in exam and also students can complete their project related work during the semester without exam pressure.
The college has a nice green environment with very good infrastructure. The main block overlooks garden. The institute also features a temple near the main entrance. This natural look gives the college an edge over others. Like a lady is incomplete without makeup, a venue is incomplete without its natural beauty.
College is situated near to the international airport which makes it easier for parents to visit the college prior to admission conformation of their ward. Since the institute is situated away from the city’s pollution, the students have a pollution-free environment to study in. The proximity to city limits is on the higher side, hence parents who have admitted their ward in hostel need not worry a lot about the safety of their kids.
The college also has a 24×7 ATM service along with various eateries apart from the canteen.
Lift facility is provided for the students along with teaching staffs. Mobile phone is restricted inside the college building for students and faculties. Such kind of restriction maintain good educational atmosphere in the college.
The college hosts a lot of technical seminars and workshops which help the students in the related field of interest.
The college boasts an excellent infrastructure with well -equipped laboratories for all departments.
Additional certification courses are also held on campus during summer vacations for students who are interested in pursuing them.

Cost of course completion is an important consideration while choosing a college. Sometimes strict rules and regulations of fee payment can mentally harass the student, but NMIT is lenient when it comes to this category. Many colleges insist on complete fee payment before the start of the academic year. NMIT never puts the academics of a student in jeopardy with strict fee payments rules. Sufficient time is provided to the student for clearing their dues without any kind of fine, which is a big advantage. College also help eligible students in obtaining various scholarships through different schemes provided by Govt. of Karnataka.
Bright students are sponsored by the college and other agencies for various projects. INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT CENTER (IEDC) is an organization which funds various colleges in INDIA for their innovative projects. Any student from any stream can present their innovative ideas before the panel which can then allot funds to the shortlisted projects. Human mimicking and human following robots are few among the latest prototype that was brought to life by this department.
College also sports a state of the art wind tunnel for aerodynamic testing of prototypes.
The college features a state of the art robotics laboratory specifically designed for students who are inclined towards robotics related technology. NMIT also hosts a MEMS (micro electro mechanic system) & CLEAN lab which is a boon of the ECE, EEE and mechanical students who are interested in the field of micro level research. NMIT also providers internship program opportunity to other college student from MEMS stream.
NMIT is involved in innovative research. NMIT is the first institute of the country to have its own satellite which is named STUDSAT. For the very first time in India, a group of 30 UG students from seven different colleges located in and around Bangalore and Hyderabad successfully built India’s first Pico satellite “STUDSAT” at Satellite integration centre located at NMIT.
NMIIT is a program which is organised in collaboration with Microsoft where students are eligible for writing Microsoft certification exam at a discounted rate. The shortlisted students are eligible for an internship & placements at Microsoft offices worldwide.
Some teaching style makes it different from others. Seminars topics are provided to each and every individual student which will help boost their confidence level and enhance their interpersonal skills.

Campus features various food, snacks and milk dairy stalls along with a co-operative department which fulfills all the basics needs of a student inside the campus. The college provides accommodation facility for teaching staff which is a feature seldom available in other colleges. General & grocery store is provided for the teaching staff.
HOSTEL:Separate hostels are provided for the first, second, third and the fourth year students to avoid the clashes among seniors & juniors and also help keep the hostel’s atmosphere at peace. Boys and girls hostels are at walking distance from the main block. Hostel is enabled with all the basics amenities such as solar water heaters, generator backup, separate parking facility, mess, gym and high speed internet connection.
There are two canteens provided for the students. One is the hostel mess and the other is the college canteen.
The hostel mess provides a non-biased menu which is decided by the hostelers. This basic feature is followed here for the meals of hosteler which makes this college unique. The menu patterns are decided by the student body, students are the only authority of their food pattern, in other way hosteler are the owner of hostel mess, they are free to order any items for the meals of their choice, the college management never interfere in this, management never compromise with the health of hosteler, because wealth is lost something is lost but health is lost everything is lost.
NMIT is collaborated with reputed hospitals in BENGALURU for the well-being of students. NMIT students get concession at the time of payment in those hospitals.Also, college provides free treatment for the financial challenged hosteler. During sickness, a hosteler does not have to worry about the amount of money the diagnostics is going to take which is a big relief for the students. Bus facility is provided for the hostel at the time of evening and night, students can take their required stuffs from outside using the bus. Hostel get closed at 10 o’clock, beyond 10 o’clock students entries are prohibited inside the campus. This keeps the disciplinary atmosphere among the hosteler. Vehicle facility is provided at the night for urgency service. Warden is appointed for both boys and girls hostel, they are available to sort out all the problems of hosteler and make them to feel hostel same as home. Servants are provided for the maintenance purpose of hostel, hostel consists newspaper and television room also. Few indoor games are also facilitated for the hosteler like carom and table-tennis.
COUNSELING AND WELFARE DEPARTMENT has appointed a well-recognized counselor who can provide the right guidance and counseling for students. She is also a behavioral therapist who can mold the students and train them for placements as well.
CONFERENCE HALLS: The College has two massive conference/seminar halls which can host north of 200+ students. The halls are air conditioned and have very comfortable seating arrangements.
DIGITAL LIBRARY is provided by the college which is equipped with digital format of books from well-known authors where the students can obtain a digital copy of various textbooks which can further help students in their academics. The digital library also contains classes which are taken by professors from world renowned colleges such as MIT, Cambridge and oxford.
TECHNOCULTURAL DEPARTMENT organizes a technical and culture fest on a yearly basis which is not comparable with any colleges of this city. The name of fest is “ANAADYANTA” which means neither the beginning nor the end, which is organized at national and the international level. Many student from different part of India and from neighboring countries participate in this event.For other colleges, fest is like a cultural program but ANAADYANTA is celebrated like an Indian festival here at NMIT.
ANAADYANTA includes classical dance, solo dance, classical dance, western dance, group dance, solo singing, sports competition like volleyball, basketball, hockey, cricket, football, kabaddi, bike stunt, tug-of-war, street dance, battle of bands, fashion show, DJ nights and the technical fest like ROBOWAR, photo shoot, coding, paper presentations and many more. That is why this fest is called neither the beginning nor the end.
This fest gives platform for multi-talented students. The “JHANKAAR” dance group of BANGALURU doesn’t need any reference, it is a dance group implemented by the students of NMIT. It is now one among the most popular dance groups in the city. Also few students of this institution working with different bands of BENGALURU.
PLACEMENTS AND TRAINING DEPARTMENT handles all the placement related activities of the college. Pre training is provided for the students who attend placement. College brings the companies according to student skill and their interest. It is possible due to reputed image of institute among others.
CANTEEN is clean and serves hygienic veg & non-veg dishes which are not priced in the higher brackets for the student’s convenience. Separate seating arrangement for faculties and the students inside the canteen is also maintained. The Canteen is very spacious which helps reduce the rush inside the canteen during break hours. Even though the food doesn’t taste as good as it does in an expensive restaurant, the price of the dish makes up for it.
FINAL YEAR PROJECT plays a major role for the growth of college and the student. NMIT’S students undertake challenging projects such as a hybrid car design in year 2014 which secured 8th position in USA hybrid car project award. This is one of the biggest achievements of this institution.
INDUSTRIAL VISITS: NMIT organized various industrial trips for different branches. It gives the students understanding of the applications of what they have learned. Also students get to experience the life of a professional person during industrial visit internship. The purpose of industrial visit strictly application and professional oriented. College lifts all the expenditure of the industrial trips. Once the students get back from the trip, they have to submit a report based on their experience.
TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT has 28 buses which ply on various routes in BENGALURU so that students from all over the city can avail this facility. The buses are well maintained and keep to their time cards.
RAGGING FREE CAMPUS: College is officially announced as ragging free campus. Strictly rules and regulations are made by the management against ragging, a committee is officially implemented against ragging and named as ANTI-RAGGING department, there are 12 members in this committee belongs to army background, rules & regulations are very scary that nobody can think to rag. Parents give more priority to the college for this facility.
SPONSORED by INDIAN RAILWAY: INDIAN railway sponsored this institution for consistence technical growth, there is a railway track inside the campus which is not available in single college of BENGALURU. Reason of sponsorship from the railway is to make the career of engineering students in railway, the attachment of student with railway can give proper growth to a nation.
LIBRARY has uncountable stock of books; it is filled with all the branch related books in appropriate quantity. Project related, R&D and non-technical books are also available. Books are arranged in well manner which saves the time in finding the books. All the competition book are available like GATE, CAT etc. A Reference facility is provided which allow 24×7 study service for the students, moreover the non-hosteler students can also take the advantage of this features. Reference is inbuilt with computer system, net facility, scanner and the printer for documentation work.
SPORTS: NMIT leads in sports department compare to other colleges at city. Campus facilitates almost all the sports in the campus, football, tennis, hockey, cricket, hockey and volleyball ground is provided inside the college, basketball court is also available, students with sportsman skill get scholarship at the time of admission, at present NMIT is at 1st position in volleyball game, college has won lots of prizes in other sports also, this institute provides platform to the students those want to make their career in sports, not only in sports, in other field also, example SALMAAN the winner of reality show DANCE INDIA DANCE is a product of this institutions, NMIT gives strength to the wings of students to pursue their career in any stream.

Choosing a college has never been an easy task, both for the students and their parents. The course fee remains the same for all college in Karnataka, but it’s always been the small things that make a college stand out among others. NMIT with its student oriented courses, technical related subjects and good student-faculty environment gives NMIT an edge over others.
The growth of a college speaks volumes about it. The college was founded 14 years back and has grown relatively faster compared to other colleges in BENGALURU. It is the youngest college in India to attain autonomous status and it is the only unaided college in Karnataka to obtain TEQIP funding. NMIT offers Aeronautical, Civil, Computer sciences, Information sciences, Electronics and communication, Electrical and electronics and Mechanical courses with an intake of 180+ students depending on the selected stream.
