Bhageerathi Bai Narayana Rao Maanay Institute of Technology or BNMIT as it is more popularly known is a private technical institution located in Banashankari 2nd stage, Bangalore. Established in the year 2001, it is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University,Belgaum. In a very short period of time, it has emerged as one of the premier centres of excellence for Engineering and Management education in the country attracting students from all over India. This is partly due to it’s strategic location in a cosmopolitan hub such as Bangalore.

The active centre of BNMIT for the 8th semester students is the Department of Training and Placements, consisting of various activities and announcements all throughout each semester. Our institute has a good effective functioning of the department throughout the year. A well organized Placement Department is working with a fulltime Director who continuously monitors the employment potentials and arranges the campus placements for the students. The faculty and student coordinators from all the departments also support the smooth running of the placement process. Our placement department makes contact with various industries and companies to find out their employment needs and calls them for campus recruitment purpose. We almost have a hundred percent student placement every year in most of the reputed companies with salaries ranging from 3 lacks per annum to 18 lacks per annum. We have various companies like Rare mile, Accenture, Infosys, Cognizant, NTT data, Tratum technologies, Cap Gemini, Westline Shipping Company, Torry Harris, and HP etc. which have already visited our campus and selected many students from our college.
The infrastructure available to the students of BNMIT is of top quality. State of the art labs in various disciplines are present. Class rooms are all well equipped with comfortable seating and with all modern day facilities like overhead projectors, smart boards,WiFi access and power point presentations. There are multiple labs present and a great deal of emphasis is laid on practical education thus preparing the students for real world scenarios outside.
There are a number of departments in BNMIT with courses being offered in both under graduate and post graduate streams. The under graduate courses include Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science, Mechanical Engineering , Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.BNMIT also offers a number of post graduate courses in MTech and MBA streams.
A pioneer in imparting quality education and training at all levels. BNMIT has been offering the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program since 2006. The goal of the MBA Programme is to empower the students with knowledge and skills through all round development of body, mind and soul. The two-year postgraduate programme (MBA) is a four semester course affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
The facilities in all the labs and all the blocks of this college are more than adequate and in-fact exemplary. The building which houses the Electronics and Communication Department along with the Telecom and EEE department is well endowed with exemplary research labs and technical labs.Relatively very few other institutions dare to foray into the wide range of educational programs that BNMIT has excelled in.
The library in BNMIT is well stocked with all types of books available. Text books, reference books and technical books on a wide range of topics are available. With computers also present in the lab which grant access to various organisations and websites like IEEE et.al, the students of BNMIT are never hard pressed to find material on any topic which interests them. An efficient system of library cards and nominal rates ensures each and every student gets a chance to access, use and gain some invaluable knowledge from this wonderful repository of books and technical papers. The strength of the books in the library as well as the space provided for these activites are a testimony to the commitment that BNMIT has to providing quality education.
The modern Library & Information Centre provides uncompromising information and intellectual requirements to its students and faculty members with a user friendly approach. It offers a fully integrated and dynamic environment for conducting academic study. Multiple copies ensure that resources are easily available in Reference Section and Circulation Section as well.
Also, NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) facility is provided across the campus through the institute local network for unlimited access to Video Lecture and Web courses of eminent faculties from IISc and IIT’s in Engineering and Science subjects. In addition to this students and faculty members can access its peer contents directly from NPTEL website.
The Library & Information Centre has the IIM Library Membership enabling MBA students and faculty members to refer to the other member libraries for additional information for their research/projects.
To cater to the wide range of information services to the users, BNMIT Library & Information Centre has well qualified, rich experienced and trained competent staff comprising 9 Professional staff members with an aim and vision to make the Library & Information Centre the best Knowledge Resource Centre among Engineering colleges Libraries in the state.
The institute supports and encourages research activities by the students and the faculty members. VTU has recognized the departments of Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and the department of Mathematics as research centres in the institute.
Another feather in the cap of this institution was the construction of the amazing new building called the auditorium building. Aesthetically designed and brilliantly functional, the building is definitely one of the better looking structures in Banashankari. Having state of the art classrooms, libraries and multiple auditoriums, this building has definitely raised the profile of this college in the eyes of many people.A new auditorium having a seating capacity of over eight hundred is the highlight of this building. With beautiful and tasteful acoustic and aesthetic features, the auditorium certainly epitomises the rise and ambition of this beautiful college. The icing on the cake was the spectacular opening ceremony which had Bharat RatnaDr. A.P.J. Kalam himself come and inaugurate the building. In an inspiring and interesting speech filled with anecdotes, insights, fun and knowledge, Dr.Kalam certainly inspired the students of this college to follow their dreams and accomplish their goals.Surely not many institutions can actually brag about the breath taking facilities offered here.

BNMIT has also established quite an enviable academic record with its students continuously bagging top ranks in university examinations. Having more than 30 professors who are Ph.D. holders, the excellent faculty is definitely one of the main reasons for this institution’s meteoric rise.
BNMIT also provides buses for transport which encompasses a well-connected network right through the heart of the city and to the outer reaches as well. As students travel from far off destinations, the well timed and superbly connected routes are a huge advantage for these students. This connectivity is useful when aiding to the traffic fueled travel of students in the city and is advantageous.
The boys’ hostel located close to the institution is well equipped to accommodate about 150 students with facilities which make it seem like home away from home. All the students are provided with a Study Table, a Chair, a Cot and a Cup-board for comfortable stay and studies. The mess is well equipped with stainless steel kitchen equipment and other facilities. A residential warden stays at the hostel to take care of the needs of the students all the time. A 24 hours security guard is also provided at the hostel for the safety of the students.
The girls’ hostel is located within the campus and all the above mentioned facilities are available to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay.
A refreshing aspect of BNMIT is that it is not all work and no play here. Extra and Co-curricular activities along with sports are nurtured and encouraged actively here. The secretary of the college Mr.Narayan Rao Maanay is an avid nature fan and he has shown his love for the environment by opening clubs like the nature club and by being an active member of admirable causes like “Save the Tiger”.
The natural beauty at BNMIT is captivating, enchanting and magical. It is like a feast for the tired eyes, mind, body and soul. The meticulously manicured gardens interspersed with fountains are like a blessing and an experience that is best when it is felt.The Friends of Nature clubis an integral part of BNMIT. With regular trips planned to both beautiful and scenic locations, the students of BNMIT learn to appreciate nature and act as the custodians for this lovely planet. Backed by the wonderful secretary of the college, students strive to maintain the natural beauty and the rich foliage in and around the college.
In addition to trips and visits, many events like Srishti Sambharama, a wild life photography exhibition and environmental talks are conducted. Also one of the faculty members, Mr.Eishwar Maanay won an award in an aquarium competition held in Japan.
In addition, the management is also magnanimous in offering scholarships to meritorious students, SC/ST students who have improved on their incoming merit level and students who have excelled in sports. BNMIT provides a platform for all round development of students in a research rich environment.At BNMIT students are not only trained for academic excellence but are also given enough inputs which are varied and comprehensive to make them responsible citizens, and more than that, to be good human beings.
The cultural committee of BNM known as “Kala Bhageerathi”has performed exemplarily since its conception. The talented students of this wonderful college have got numerous laurels and have won over audiences all over with their sensational performances. The cultural committee has also been winners of the VTU youth festival a number of times. Students are encouraged to follow their interests and hobbies passionately and there is a wholesome development for students. The students of this institution learn to be grounded and they receive a well-rounded and holistic education .Numerous awards in dance, music and the fine arts stand testimony to the superb efforts of the college’s outstanding cultural committee.
We have various events in our Kala Bhageerathi Intra college fest like Monoacting, solo dance, group dance, our best event called the BNM Idol, which is given to the best singer of the college every year. But this award is given only once to the best singer each year. So we have a new BNM idol every year. Our college cultural team has bagged various prizes in the visvesvaraya university cultural fest held every year. We had bagged the best college in the year 2010-2011 in the cultural field. Our college supports us well in the the extracurricular activities and sports in which we wouldn’t have positioned ourselves in competing standards.
Kala Bhageerathi is one of the most happening days in our college where all our friends and staff take part in the fest to excel and expose their talent in the cultural field. We have various western dancers, classical dancers who have made name in various inter college competitions. Our college has experienced cultural teachers and co-ordinators who train the students to excel well.
Apart from all the academics and cultural perspective, BNMIT is known for various sports that has produced good results in both indoor and outdoor fields. BNMIT is best known for Table Tennis and Throw Ball. We have a record of being unbeaten in table tennis in both men and women categories. We have won various inter college, state-level and All-India tournaments in the last four years. Personally, me being in the table tennis team gives me an honour to say that my college has given me with all the support and constant encouragement whenever I represented the college or my state. Being a national table tennis player, my college has awarded me with various scholarships for every academic year. My team mates Ashwin Hanagudu and Navneeth A.R are also my colleagues when we represent the state in our National tournaments.So, we are lucky enough to study in the same college.

BNMIT is also known for throw ball . We have secured both First and Second place in various inter college tournaments. We are fairly good in Net Ball , secured second in the VTU inter collegiate sports. One of the main highlights is the gymnasium and fitness clubs. We have a gymnasium team where we have won various prizes in the VTU Body building Competition. Students named, Uttam Shetty and Nishad M Rao have secured First , second and third in best physique and power lifting events and represented the university in All-India Universities Body building competition.
BNMIT has provided the students with a super class gym facility with all the required equipments as we know today’s youth are much fond of having a fit body. All the students are allowed to make use of the gym efficiently.
We have an indoor badminton court which is much more to add to our college’s facility. Students always need a break from studies and need some relaxing time too. The beautiful badminton court is open to us after the college timings. Teachers make use of the court as well. After a stressful day to make a day refreshable. We have a tennis court for our tennis lovers. A clay tennis court would be a wonderful field to play on. Not many are aware about squash. But our college has provided a great facility for squash players. A squash court as well.
The BNMIT canteen is a stall where the students take light and refreshing Tiffin. The teachers, students and the other staff also eat there. A college canteen is a part of college life. We cannot think of our college life without college canteen. Students depend much on college canteen. It is the reliable source of their taking foods. Sometimes the outside hotels provide hygienic and poor quality foods that are harmful for health. Students have to take such kind of foods because of the lack of the college canteen. Taking harmful foods from outside hotel or food shop, students suffer from different kinds of diseases. As a result, they cannot pay attention to their studies. Cholera, typhoid, dysentery are break out in an epidemic form. Any student cannot escape from the suffering of the lack of canteen. There are different kinds of food items are available in college canteen. Canteen provides the students with tea, biscuits, bananas, bread, singara, parata and cold drinks etc. It is furnished with sufficient furniture. A lot of chairs and tables are here. Generally, students come to college canteen for taking food. But some of them also pass time there by gossiping. Sometimes, they also discuss about the affairs of home and abroad which help to enrich their knowledge. A college canteen is a part and parcel of a college life. It is very useful for the students.
So, all in all, BNMIT has been a pioneer in being a good technical and management institution which has marked an excellent name in a very small period of time. We are ranked the fifth best college under the affiliation of Visvesvaraya Technological University. As it says, education is for life, and not for livelihood. We truly follow.
