The bhageerathi bai narayana rao maanay institute of technology simply BNMIT, is my college which I am studying presently. It was 1972 when all like minded people from Bangalore south thought of beginning higher education institute in Bangalore, with all necessary and value based education for students. All the like minded people started a trust called bhageerathi bai narayana maanay charities.
The mission of the institute includes providing current and emerging methodologies for students, not only teaching academics but also a good character and high ethical values. Now the institute is one of the top ten colleges in Karnataka.
The campus is located in banashankari 2nd stage which is the center of the city. The college provides good education from when it started, there are good teaching faculties who are passionate towards teaching and have interest in teaching others. Here the teaching and non-teaching staffs are also follow disciplined rules which are formed by college administration. There is lot to tell about our college, the college has established a nature club called bnm friends of nature club in which registered students visit several wildlife sanctuary, bird sanctuary and several other places every year headed by secretary of BNMIT. The college also gives an opportunity for students to actively participate in social service camps, blood donation camps etc.
The college encourages wild life photography; every year members of nature club are taken to trekking .the nature club gives most of the students an opportunity to break free from regular routine and experience the complex life n all its simplicity. All these things cannot be seen in other colleges of Bangalore where they concentrate only on students academics.
To support environment the college has started srishti sambhrama fest which will be organized every year. The college will give award for those who serve the society by their environmental works.Morely the college stand different in any manner.
More recently the college has introduced software for students/parents called campus management software which is used to provide each and every information about the student in the college premises. Our college is the first college in India to introduce this type of software. There are advantages and disadvantages for students from this software, such that if the student bunks the class his parents get to know that he has bunked class. But the negative part of it is each and every hour the parents get message if the student bunks the whole day which causes irritation to parents. But no problem our college is doing some different things to maintain discipline in students which helps them when they enter industry.
The college is located in a residential area so parents can send their children without any hesitation; most of the students are girls in our college which shows at which level the college’s reputation is maintained. Apart from all these the students of our college has secured VTU rankings every year. There is a special thing in BNM that every student’s progress is maintained by one of the teaching staffs and they will be called as Councillors, they will maintain records of students and this will be monitored by college administration.
ABOUT BUILDINGS
Basically engineering colleges needs land in terms of acres to build a good campus, in our college there are few less land but even though the land is small the buildings are built excellently and well planned. There are three buildings in our college named main building which is the first building which was built when college was started. The great thing in our college is that we can see a seminar hall in each and every building which is well equipped and well maintained and I can say that upto my knowledge we cannot see these types of auditoriums and seminar halls in any other colleges. Coming back to the main building it’s totally built with a good idea it consists of separate amenities block for girls and boys.
There is a building called new building in which 3 departments are maintained. All the floors are installed with CCTV to maintain discipline, there is lot to tell about the infrastructures provided by college authority, they maintain notice board which will be updated every day which helps the students to update their plans according to the timetable, events etc.All these things support to my article which stands different than other colleges. I can say that other colleges lag in these small small things which students need very much. These words are not just for supporting my college but I have enquired my friends who are studying in other colleges of the city.
Oops I forgot to tell about our laboratories which are well equppied, well maintained and there are good assistants who guide the students with their experience. All the labs in our college are provided with LAN there is a facility that student can access the college account for research and other assignment purpose. All the staffs are friendly and cooperative towards the students.
More recently the college constructed a building where in library, canteen, reference library and a wonderful auditorium. There are 6 engineering branches in our college and M.Tech and MBA courses.
ABOUT LIBRARY
The library in our college is located in the auditorium building it has each and every books related to each engineering branches as other colleges has. But the inclusion of digital system in library made the system user friendly. There are lot of books in library so each and every student can get the books which he wants, the library is headed by a well qualified chief librarian and followed by good faculty. Coming to the statistics present in the library there are 30,069 volumes, reference & textbooks. And over 1450 learning CD-ROMS, data books, project reports, micro documents are made available to its user. Automated library subscribes to over 110 national and 37 international reputed print journals. The library management system is in place with bar-code interface to all its activities. Digital library and institutional repository has been set up by using DSpace software.
There is also a reference library for those who stay at far places or hostilities who cannot study in their places. The libraries are opened till 7 pm. So the students spend most of the time in reading books. There are other books apart from the studies like cultural, environmental, sports, journals etc…
The library also provides systems for accessing internet where if any information is not available in books. But the disadvantage is that there is restriction for social media in the digital library, now a day’s people are so addicted to social media but they could not access them there.
PHYSICAL DEPARTMENT
The physical department in our college encourages all sorts of games like indoor and outdoor games. The staffs of physical department are so friendly that they provide all sought of help needed to improve their carrier in sports field. The physical education at BNMIT is focused on many physical activities other than participating in sports and games. The primary aim is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, capacities, social competence, emotional maturity and values along with the enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The department is well equipped with modern infrastructure of both indoor and outdoor facilities.
One thing I should not miss about the maintenance of tennis and volley ball court. The staff of physical department has taken care of court as their kids. This shows the passionate about the sports. Activities in the department are designed to promote fitness, to understand rules, concepts, strategies and to teach students to work as part of a team, or as individual. The institution provides the budding sportspersons a platform to exhibit their talent in wide variety of competitive sports at national, state, university and inter college levels.
The students of our college have participated in VTU tournaments and represented VTU in inter university tournaments and bought laurels to the university and for our college. Recently the badminton and table tennis court has been inaugurated by called dignitaries. BNMIT, our college provides equal importance to sports and fitness programs and our college not only participates and wins prizes in various intercollegiate athletic meets. Students of our college are encouraged to use two state of the art gymnasiums housing. Highly skilled and trained persons take care of the personal requirements of the students.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Another specialty of our college is to conduct more and more cultural activities in the academic year. The annual day is called kala bhageerathi which will be conducted in the even semesters it includes events like singing, dancing, mimicry, skits, solo performance and even more. But the auditorium will be waiting with full of curiosity for mad ads. The mad ads at BNMIT is special why because the college does not supports vulgarity in the script, the students who performs mad ads are so creative in mind such that they will do scripts without any nonsense. Why I am telling all these things here in detail is I am also one of the performer in the mad ads team called navagrahas.
Kalabhageerathi the cultural club of BNMIT identifies the latent talent among the students, nutures them and provides the platform in various fields like singing, dancing, library events.
The college will award every year a student as BNM IDOL. The entire event is a big morale booster for the participants and a bonding factor for the students. The cultural team under the guidance of one of the professor from the college, the singing team from kalabhageerathi will be invited by devagiri temple to give a concert. The BNMIT cultural team has always given stiff competition at the university youth fest every year, which is the biggest event of the year where more than a 100 engineering colleges under VTU participates. Every time the participants make sure that they will back with some prizes. So by seeing all these things we can say that BNMIT not only tops with academics every year but also stands top in extracurricular activities.
CANTEEN
The canteen in BNMIT is so good because of enough space and quality of food they provide for reasonable cost. The canteen is located in the auditorium building. In our college the assistants are servants will clean the canteen area for at least each and every hour. Till date no complaints has been registered regarding the quality, cleanness or some other sought of issues in the canteen.
HOSTEL
Hostel for girls is located inside the campus; I don’t know much about the girl’s hostel but by my friends who stay at college hostel says that the food, infrastructures provided by the hostel is awesome. The college is so strict that no stranger can enter the hostel even though if they are workers or staffs of the college. The boy’s hostel is located in nearby place to the college there is college bus facility for the hostel students and the cost for hostel is not that much bulk. They provide good treatment for students who are coming from other states, cities the hostel also provides free wifi facility to the students for research or surfing the required academics purpose. With the quality of education drawing from distant places, BNMIT has provided hostel facilities that are a home away from home. The hostels provide homely and hygienic food.
And coming to the security provide by the BNMIT is so good that without identity card even a mosquito cannot enter the campus. There are so many CCTV cameras inside and even at the gates of the college, and the dress code is so strict no round neck t-shirts are allowed inside the campus and no faded pants and dress which creates nonsense is not allowed for boys and for girls the printed and sleeveless dresses are not allowed.
The bus convenience for the students is provided by the management for all the directions of the Bangalore, because the students are travelling to college from far places where no direct buses are available for the college route. There are few friends who travel in college bus they give a good opinion about the transportation provided by the management, the time keep up of the staffs is so good that they won’t be late in terms of minutes also. The buses are clean and in good condition and well maintained I have seen some other college buses which will be in tragic condition and is not eco friendly and will split lot of smoke. But the scenario is different in case of BNMIT buses they all are new buses and serviced time to time. You may wonder how a student can know about all these non academic things, the answer for this is we the students of BNM will go friendly with all the staffs regardless of who he or she is , that’s how we are bought up by our parents and guided by the college.
PLACEMENTS
The placements at BNMIT are so good that because of the reputation that they have maintained in the education field and the quality of education they provide to the students. More overly the discipline of the students will attract the companies to select more students. The staffs of placement department will work hard to attract the companies to get their students a job. Not only they call up a company but the department also gives placement training to the students in the lower semesters about the aptitude, logical reasoning and verbal etc.
Recently in the last semester number of companies visited our college and most of the students got selected for most of the companies this is an example of the talent and the way the placement department guide the students.
STAFFS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
The BNMIT not only provide the development programs for students but also conducts a staff development programs in the post holidays after the semester exams. Each and every staffs are guided by well trained experts, this program lasts for a week and every staffs of every department will attend most useful program to improve their knowledge, skills etc.
Faculty training program for enhancement of teaching and communication skills as we as updating to current trends in interactive teaching and students evaluations using latest equipments as well as teaching aids are a regular feature at BNMIT. Faculties are trained to help students learn planning, time management, mind power building and setting aims and goals. They also undertake personalized counseling of adolescent students.
STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
The students are trained in the skills that are necessary to face challenges in the outside world. They are trained in various skills like quantative ability, analytical, and logical reasoning as I told in placement section and related topics such as communication skills etc.
To aid the student’s quest for knowledge and to provide an insight into the research scenario at reputed institutes and industries, the departmental associations has been formed by combined departments like telecommunication and electronics as BETA and other few.
A number of lectures, seminars, interactive discussions etc are conducted regularly to improve the skills and knowledge of the students.
COLLEGE FEST
The college fest TATVA which will be conducted every year in the even semester this is an inter and intra college events where several students from each department get together and plan the events.
Students from different colleges and BNMIT also packed with excitement to participate and everyone’s eyes on the prize money which will be provided for the winners of the individual events. Events such as BBROY, Google it, auto quiz and lot more.
TELECOMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT
Last but not least, my telecommunication department is present only in few colleges at Bangalore; actually TCE is a department where only few subjects will differ from regular electronics and communication department. But few people won’t like to join this department because they think this course doesn’t have scope in the market but they are wrong. Coming back to my college the department has got continuous ranking from VTU, most of the ranks secured by the college is by telecommunication department itself. All the staffs from the department are rank holders from different universities and they are so passionate about teaching they try to teach good things along with the academics and they are so encouraging, more overly the HOD is so friendly that she will understand the student’s problem and try to solve it on the spot.
The department has also started the department magazine called telemag which will be published by the students itself and the students are encouraged to write articles which are technical or non technical. We can see that in any events that happens in college we can at least one student from telecommunication department that much the staffs will encourage the students to be active in extracurricular activities. Last year our department organized the college fest TATVA. It is practice that in our college every year one of the department should organizer the fest and it was very successful. I feel proud even after passing out of college that I have studied in BNMIT and that too in telecommunication department. Our college stands different than other colleges in these manners by encouraging the students in every event to participate.
My college provides good education, extracurricular activities and maintain good reputation among educational institutions, students, industries, university and parents.
