BMS Institute of technology and management is one of the best colleges of Vishesharya technological university. It was established in 2002. The current principal of this college is Dr. R V Ranganath and vice principal is Hariprashad. It has 92 academic staff, 109 administrative staff and 1765 students. It is located in Avallahalli, Yelhanka, Bangalore. Its campus is over 21 acre. It was founded by B S Narayan. B S Narayan is son of B M Sreenivasaiah. B M Sreenivasaiah was an educationist. This college is care taken by BMS educational trust. It is also recognized as a research center by VTU in 2005. It provides bachelor of electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, computer science engineering, mechanical engineering, telecommunication engineering, civil engineering, information science engineering and bachelor of architecture degree.
CAMPUS
There are mainly three buildings in this campus. These buildings have several numbers of classrooms and other small blocks for other purposes. The buildings are named as the main academic block, the B S Narayan memorial block, the administrative block. It also consist two boy’s hostel, an amphitheater, several sports pitches and courts like kabbadi court, basketball court, cricket pitch etc, Allahabad bank and parking place. The girl’s hostel is off campus and one on campus boy’s hostel.
The main academic block has mechanical, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics and telecommunication blocks. It has four floors. It consists of several classrooms, labs, teacher’s chamber and toilets for staffs, boys and girls. The classroom is well ventilated, spacious and big. It accommodates almost 60 students. There are two seater benches and a lecturer board for teacher. Classroom has facility like projector board, projector, black and white board. There are 12-14 labs in this building for students of these branches. Labs consist of a large table with two chairs for teachers and few two seater benches for students to do the writing purpose and several equipments related to lab. The ECE labs are DSP lab, analog communication lab, advance communication lab, microprocessor lab, VLSI lab, power electronics lab. TEXAS lab is also there as it has bound with our college and every semester they conduct few courses in that field. There is well enough equipment available for students to work and practice individually. In this building main seminar hall is there where so many national conferences and seminars has held till date. It is well furnished and air conditioned. It can accommodate more than 200 students. Teaching staff of this college are of all ranks from various fields of engineering, as well as non teaching staff to guide the students. There is one ladies lounge in each building which has bed, sofas and chairs for unwell girls and for the students who wants to work out during their leisure classes. It has one medical room in ground floor of Main academic block. BMS Hospital trust has provided one doctor to this college. His name is Dr. Jayarami Reddy. He watches out the medical needs of the staff and students of this college. This First Aid cum wellness center is working all the working days that is Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm. And on Saturday from 10 am to 12m. It will be closed on Sunday. It provides emergency, first aid. If there will be some serious issues which cannot be handle here or treated here than the primary treatment patients are referred to nearby hospitals. Wheel chairs and ambulance is also available in case of emergency.
The other BSN block contains library, MCA, chemistry, physics, computer science, civil and physical educations. A large spacious building is provided for library. It is specially built for the purpose. This idea was given by one of the teacher of civil department. He only works on the structure and bulid the map for it. It covering a area of approximate 1500 square meter. It has a good collection of books in engineering and other subjects catering to the needs of faculties, research scholars, staff and students. This room is housed in the ground floor. The reference section in the first floor. Both of it occupies 800 square meter. The library has more than 200 seating capacity. Ground floor is having a circulation counter where the students show his identity card to issue or renewable of the text books. There is three computers where they can check whether the textbooks that they need is available or not. If it is not than they can reserve the books. It also has stack room where the textbooks to be issued are kept. It also has reprographic section, processing section, server room. And there is one Librarian’s chamber. Here students can take printouts of previous years question paper or print outs of other important things. The first floor is occupied with technical journals or magazines, the other side is project or seminar reports section. There is two discussion rooms which is sound proof. There is one newspaper section where every day more than 20 fresh newspapers will be kept. There is one personal books reading room, language laboratory and internet browsing centre. This browsing center is having almost 80 seats. It has a very good collection of books that is 42,813 in various disciplines. It is subscribe to 116 print journals and 7 on-line journal packages. The Library is fully automated. It uses KOHA 3.18 library management software. It is completely computerized using libsoft software. It is subscribes to more than 200 IEL-online journals. It also gives facility like book bank to student. In this students are provided to have two books per semester. It consists of two labs. One is digital lab and other is internet lab. Here access to internet is available. During weekdays this library is open from morning 8.30 am to evening 8 pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturday it will be open for morning 8.30 am to afternoon 1 pm.
In school also we were taught phrases like “sound body has sound mind”, health is wealth. There we were not having facilities like gym but we were provided games periods to play outdoor. And hence there our school was working on our fitness. Same way in our college Physical Education is given importance and it is taught as the knowledge of physical exercise for fitness. It is the basic requirement of the people of different ages. It is also seen for a healthy society we need a complete personality which is Physically, Mentally & Socially fit person. So this college believes that sports play a very important role for the overall development of students where they can learn Discipline (by following the rules and regulation of particular game), Dedication (by giving your best to it), Team work (most of the games are played with team. So there should be good coordination and mutual understanding among them), Decision making ability (head of the team or captain should be able to make good decision on spot at the time of need ), Winning & Losing situations (it is obvious that if one will lose than other will win. It’s the two side of coin. So students should play as sportsman. Whatever will be the results they should accept it), Willpower, Aggressiveness (it helps to work out the aggression in positive way), control on temperament etc, hence here the students are highly encouraged to take part in sports activities like VTU inter college tournaments and different other tournaments organized by reputed colleges and organization. The sports department is well equipped with state of art, Gym and other excellent facilities for sports and games in the college premises. This is done to promote the sports persons of our college. The departments also conducted activities like inter department sports activities. This college also provides specially trained coaches for better performance of their team. These coaches were engaged to train the various teams. This building contains different labs of MCA and computer science like data structure with c laboratory, electronic circuits and logic design laboratory, microprocessor laboratory, system software and operating system laboratory, etc. There is one seminar hall for MCA students and their work. The administrative block has the administrative and accounts section where the account work and other office work is done, the Principal chamber, Directors and Chairperson Chambers, the board room for meetings, and the department of architecture. The department of architecture comes under BMS College of engineering and it is seen by that college only. It also has avallahalli branch of Allahabad bank. These buildings have drinking water facility on each floor. There is one small workshop block behind the main block. Here the welding and fitting of metal is done by the students of mechanical department. There is one basketball field, one cricket field and one big parking lot in front of the BSN block. There is plan to build one on campus girls hostel.
Located away from the city havocs BMSIT enjoys a peaceful and calm environment. Though the college is away from the city traffic it is not cheated of the public transportation facilities. BMTC, Bangalore provides the college a convenient support by providing the route with timely routed buses. The bus stop is located only a few steps away from the college that provides an ease to the students of all kinds be punctual. Apart from these comforts from the BMTC, the college also provides college bus to the students who seek it. These buses cover almost all parts of the city providing a very good transport facility to the students. There is a large area allocated for parking because of which even students and the teachers have a liberty to carry their vehicles to the college. The security in the college is also tight enough to defend any roaches trying any nasty trick of theirs. These gardens are also provided with the benches. The student can entertain themselves during lunch hour or whenever they are free. This is good for hanging out with friends and to spend little good and memorable time with them. As college life is not only meant for study but it also helps to socialize with others. To add to these facilities we have a temple of a God worshipped almost all religions that provides students with serenity and calmness in work the temple consists of a meditation unit in it giving open access to everyone building up the mental strength in students who actually seek it. There is one book mart inside college campus which has all semester textbooks, Xerox machine, printing machine and other stationary materials along with packet snacks. One coffee shop is also there which provides coffee and different flavor of sodas. There is a environment friendly canteen in between the campus. It provides good quality and healthy foods. It serves a lot of clean and nutritious food to its inmates. It provides a variety of foods including the local breakfasts, chats and also some Chinese fast foods. The canteen is divided into two blocks and is architecture beautifully in a downtown fashion. Surrounded by the lush of greenery canteen gives peaceful and calm warmth for the food lovers.
HOSTEL
There is on and off campus hostels for boys and girls. Girl’s hostel is located in yelhanka new town and boy’s hostel is on campus. It is double and triple seater rooms. It gives best facilities for the students who stay away from their home. In this hostel there are students from various part of the country with different cultures, languages, etc. This different types of students enables every student to understand the cultures of other students. It helps each student to develop an all-round personality which will help them to become better citizens of India. In the BMSIT Hostels, The supervisors are available in the hostel premises around whole day and night that is 24*7 and ensure that the needs of the students are satisfied. They also watch out the discipline and incidents like ragging and other offences. All the hostel students are provided free access to health care facilities. These availabilities are available inside the college campus only. They organize Yoga and meditation sessions for students in collaboration with Basic Foundation within the hostel premises. Here the students who are addicted to bad habits are also provided with the useful session by person who belongs to that field. Its helps them a lot to be a better person and quit those things. In the hostel, as there are students from different state and cultures they celebrate almost all festivals such as Independence Day, Holi, Diwali, Ganesha Chaturthi, Ugadi, etc. BMSIT Hostels have three blocks. The two are for boys. These blocks are on campus. The third one is in a residential area at Yelahanka 4th phase where the girls stay. It is at the distance of 4 km from the college. Total capacity of this hostel is 424 students. Still this hostel is under construction and few more floors are to be constructed. College is providing free bus facilities to the students staying in the girls’ hostel. They also give accommodation to international students who come under NRI quota.

Internet connectivity is available in the internet center. This can be used by students and staff members during college hour.
GARDEN
The college is awarded with the best garden award in 2014. The whole campus is covered with greenly. Here they use waste water of the campus, treated in water treatment plant for irrigation. The entire college is solar powered which supplies the hot water throughout the campus.
FEST, CULTURAL AND CO-CIRRICULLAR ACTIVITIES
Every year this college organizes three days inter college fest called “Utsaha”. Several literary, cultural, academic and musical events are held and the winners are duly awarded. First day there will be opening ceremony. And after that DJs night in which the top most band of the year will perform. The next day there will be other activities like games, different kind of dance performance, music and follow by the other competitive session like games and other things in which different colleges will participate. And the last day of fest ends with the fashion show.
Here they also celebrates ethnic day. On this day students wear traditional dresses and they represents there region, culture and state, as here students from different states studies. There is a team of NSS which organizes different activities in college as well as out of the college. They organize blood donation camp every semester in which students and staff members donate their bloods for needy people. They also visit nearby villages to enlighten about various communicable disease and cleanliness of their home as well as surroundings. They also help them to clean their villages. They also visit several natural places for tracking to get the knowledge about the nature and to be more close to them.
CLUBS
There are few clubs also like robotics club, the free software club, glug, computer society of India, urja club, etc. There are few members in Robotics club from different branches and years. One instructor is there who will teach the basics about robots. They will provide tools and teaches how to build that. And after few session students will be able to build their own robots with different functions. The free software movement was started by one of the teacher off our college. Later many students got interested and they form the club. This club generally focuses on the open source software. They make changes that need to be updated and than they will provide that to others for free. There is one another club called Urja club. Their main motive is to save energy, regenerate it or recycle it. They teaches how to save energy and related to this they have organizes many seminars and activity like making some useful things from wastes and plastics and other harmful things.
STAFF MEMBERS
Teachers are very motivating. They always push us to do well in study and to participate in other cultural activities, workshops and seminars. They not only focus on studies but also other activities. They never underestimate the students; have equal expectation of success from everyone. They use modern techniques, smart ways to teach students. They uses PowerPoint presentation, shows videos related to the subjects, gives updates what is happening around world related to that field. They are not only concerned about our academics but there main focus is overall development like personality, communication, humanity and values. The students are provided Procter with whom they can share their problems. They guide them throughout the engineering life. They also help them to come over depression, personnel problems, etc.
PLACEMENT CELL
The placement cell at this college helps student to find career in core companies, IT sector as well as the management companies. Every year 90-95% of eligible students get placed in different companies with handsome salary packages. The students of BMSIT are trained for placements from the first semester itself in the areas like personality development, group discussions, interviews, aptitude, communication skills, etc. Many leading companies visit BMSIT for recruitment every year. BMSIT also provides placement opportunities to the students in association with BMSCE Placement cell. Over 80 reputed and leading companies including Microsoft, ABB, IBM, TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture etc. have recruited the students. The placement cell in the college works hard to provide the best placements to its students, for which the training starts from almost a year before the placement activities start. The college has collaborated with ASK (Academy for Skill and Knowledge) which trains the students the ways to survive a company making them mentally very strong and ready to face the upcoming interviews.
This college is better than other colleges as It has got, A well built architecture that adds to the aura of it best ambience, with a very good aura, acoustically constructed buildings and well equipped labs with efficient equipments maintained superficially. The greenery in our college has won the best maintained garden award in the state having more than 200+ species of plants maintained in the best way possible. And as the college also provides us with the free internet connectivity with a pretty good speed. The internet can either be accessed in the internet labs. It also provides students with the wi-fi service to provide the students access to internet inside the campus at any nook and corner and to any accessible wireless device. Being constant supporter of environmental measures, the main avenue is flanked on both of its sided by rich lush greenery. The water to the plants and greens come from the recycled water from the campus. The recycling plant is located inside the campus which is well equipped and proficient. The hot water storage and supply are completely solar power energized. It also holds a lot of rare and special plants (some imported too) with labels naming and signifying their importance to all of us.
The library is running fully an a miracle software named KOHA. The latter held a national conference on library maintenance which is not very common these days. The teaching staff in the college is well equipped and professional who pursue the growth of themselves along with the students. There is a healthy relationship between the teachers and the students inside and outside the campus. The students are mentored by proctors allocated to them, who help guiding them in the right path and reasoning and solving their personal problems if any. The seminar hall in the college gives a very good platform for interactive and intuitive teaching providing the students with lecture videos from professionals and maestros in certain fields to guide them in the right paths. Motivational lectures are conducted every now and then to keep the energy of students intact. We proudly say that our college is collaborated with the Melton foundation (1991), which provides a platform for talented people from various cultures address global issues on principals of open communication and mutual respect. This campus is also plastic free zone and here the use of cell phone is strictly avoided.
