Davie, FL  / Announcing the Ribbon Cutting for the 411 PAIN Nova Middle School Court Room.  What a truly amazing ceremony to showcase the wonderful addition to our campus! The ribbon cutting ceremony will be followed by special presentations and an inaugural mock trial led by students of the Nova Middle School Law Studies Program.

The program will start with a welcome by Dara Collins on behalf of the Nova Middle School PTSA and continued with remarks by Robin Bartleman, School Board Member and Donna Korn, Chair of the School Board of Broward County.  Principal Dr. Jermaine Fleming will then welcome and thank all of the sponsors. Dr. Fleming will introduce NMS’s own law teachers, Christopher Relyea and Eli Atlas, who both will discuss their involvement in the law program as well as the impact the court room will have on our students and beyond.

It will be terrific to hear from Germaine Smith-Baugh, CEO Urban League of Broward County and Pamela J. Meanes, President of the National Bar Association, about their involvement in the Court Room and the following mock trial that took place after the ceremony.

The multi-purpose courtroom was made possible by the Nova Middle School PTSA, and by charitable efforts and influence of partners and local businesses, our signature sponsor, 411 PAIN and all of our volunteers, our staff, administration, teachers, students, parents and alumni – and of course, Dr. Fleming and Mr. Relyea!   A special thanks to the NMS PTSA President, Patricia White, and Treasurer, Bevon Christie, for all their time behind the scenes on this project.

Thank you to all of the sponsors, including:

Additionally, thank you to all of the current and former Nova families that have sent in donations for this project.  Currently, faux books are being painted on the court room walls to recognize our individual family sponsors to date.  The court room will continue to have maintenance and continued donations are much appreciated!

Nova Middle School is one of only three public middle schools in the state with a full-time dedicated courtroom. The Law Studies Program, now in its eighth year, has served nearly 2,000 students interested in pursing legal studies.

Students participating in the Law Studies Program will use the new courtroom facility to practice their advocacy skills, attend law classes and host education conferences. The courtroom is fitted with judge, jury and advocate seating and will also serve as the setting for mock trial competitions.
