The Fire Industry Manufacturers’ (FIM) Expo is a new trade road show that brings together all the major fire detection and alarm manufacturers under one roof – ideal for anyone maintaining or installing fire detection and alarm (FD&A) systems. The next FIM Expo takes place at Murrayfield Rugby Ground in Edinburgh on Wednesday 25th of September. Event Manager, Becky Reid, talks about the trade expo and why everyone working in fire detection in Scotland and Northern Ireland should attend.

Organised by the Fire Industry Association (FIA), FIM Expo features many of the UK’s leading fire detection and alarm manufacturers, and it focuses on showcasing the latest products and developments in this sector of the industry.

But what makes FIM Expo different to many other trade exhibitions is the informal format, regional focus and the opportunity to see the latest from all the major fire detection manufacturers in one place, on one day. The Expo travels around the country, stopping off at two venues every year on its way, saving customers the time and effort of travelling long distances to meet with manufacturers and giving it the regional edge over other national events. And this month we are coming to Edinburgh.

If you work in any capacity with FD&A systems you should join us at Murrayfield rugby stadium on Wednesday 25th of September. The home of Scottish rugby, Murrayfield is only 20 minutes from Edinburgh airport and is conveniently located toward the centre of the city.

The event is open from 10.00am to 5pm and is free to attend. Just register for the show today at www.fim-expo.com

Learn about fire detection standard changes

In addition to the exhibition itself, we are holding a complementary seminar on BS 5839-1 and -6. BS 5839 is the British Standard relevant to fire detection and alarm systems and was updated earlier this year. These changes affect anyone working with these systems and this two-hour seminar will cover all the key points. The seminar will explain the background to the revision, go into the detail of what’s changed, as well as why and how it affects you.

The seminar is on from 11.00 am to 1pm, and a complementary finger buffet will be provided afterwards.

What previous attendees have said

As an event organiser I know that, with continuing economic challenges, it is harder today to justify time out of the working day attending events. That is why FIM Expo works so well – it is local and is small enough to get around without eating into your time too much, yet without being too small to not be of benefit.

The feedback has been good. Here’s what just two attendees of the Surrey event last March said:

The venue was great and the whole event for me was very well presented…Good show, good venue

…meet a few known and unknown exhibitors and to gain more info on certain products new and upcoming on a face to face basis and see the products up close…

Organised by the Fire Industry Association

FIM Expo is organised by the Fire Industry Association (FIA), the largest UK trade association in fire protection. The FIA was formed in 2007 through a merger between two longstanding and well-respected trade associations, FETA (Fire Extinguishing Trade Association) and BFPSA (British Fire Protection Systems Association). These two associations had long shared a common interest in the promotion of the professional status of the UK fire industry, and the FIA is proud to continue this work.

The main objective is to promote the professional standards of the fire industry through close liaison and lobbying with Government and official bodies as well other key organisations in the industry. We aim to inform our members and the general market about the latest legislation and how it can affect their business.

We provide technical knowledge and advice to anyone who needs it regarding fire safety in the UK. We also provide training courses to members and non-members alike on all the latest technical and legislative topics to affect those working with fire safety.
