Drive along Highway 1 between the Highway 1 Gate and the Carmel Gate (there is a small toll fee), where you’ll encounter luxury resorts, golf courses, ancient forests and, of course, incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and rugged coastline. From October through February each year, Monarch butterflies flock to the Monarch Grove Butterfly Sanctuary in the thousands on their way down south.
