If you haven’t been to Andersonville yet, you are missing out. It just might be the most charming, and friendly, neighborhood in Chicago. As part of Andersonville’s 50th anniversary celebration, our members were invited to experience themed tours of the neighborhood.

Here is what our members had to say about the experience:

“I loved that it was self-paced, allowing me to explore in an organic fashion. The local owners were super welcoming and it was a natural fit for the type of ideas we promote on our blog LiveLikeYoureTraveling.com.”

– Mu-Hsien of LiveLikeYoureTraveling.com (you can read more about her Andersonville experience here)

“It was such a delight to be welcomed with open arms at the 50th Anniversary of Andersonville!I particularly enjoyed my stop at The Coffee Studio where I sampled artisan coffee, tea, and pizza. As well as – new food venture! – a developing

recipe for CHAI ice cream! Oh, how I love being the taste-tester for delicious sweet treats.City Olive was another fun stop on the Clark Street adventure; and I found the perfect assortment of oils and handmade pasta to pair as a gift for Mother’s Day. (We also made my mom fresh baked bread for dipping!)

Another highlight of the night was the polenta fry appetizer at Summerdale… Comfort food at its finest! They were delicious and definitely an item you’ll have to experience for yourself. I know I’ll be back for more!

Thank you to the Andersonville Camber of Commerce for putting together this walking tour for us! It was wonderful to explore the area and get to know some of the small business owners of Andersonville.”

– Jennifer Claire of Jennifer Claire Photography

“I loved that it showed me a part of the city that I’d not yet explored. I loved meeting the individual proprietors of the stores, and got to talk to them about not only the goods they sold, but also about themselves and how/why they started their respective businesses.  I had such a great time, and I’m already planning another self-made scavenger hunt to see more!”

“I absolutely loved walking down the streets of Aville and discovering new places, like The Coffee Studio. The neighborhood has such a connected feel and the walk gave us the opportunity to explore different facets, from a Moscow Mule at Summerdale to a great olive oil shop down the block.”

– Nika of Wear and Why

“The owner, Scott Martin, of Simon’s bar took us on a whirl wind history tour of the secret club downstairs. The original gold gilded door, with the writing “The No Name Club”, leads you into the original structure of the speakeasy. Simon’s celebrates its 80th birthday this summer with specials and stories.”

– Monica and Kate of ChiOrganic Girls

“It’s hard to say what I loved the most but definitely discovering what a treasure the Guest House Hotel is. It’s beautifully decorated and has a home away from home feel with all the amenities of a hotel. The library is a beautiful space that is also available for events.

Milk Handmade is such a special place for the neighborhood carrying all handmade crafts, many from local designers. It was a unique experience to be able to chat with Hallie and learn more about the store. The Horchata scented candle is a must buy!

– Alicia of Tastemade

“I loved the foodie tour of Andersonville to discover some great places that I never would have found on my own. So many great restaurants, specialty food shops and coffee shops that I can’t wait to come back and check out even more. It’s such a great neighborhood with so much character.”

– Sapna of Vegetarian Tourist

Thank you to the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce for showing us such a great time!
