Hoda is the blogger behind JooJoo Azad.
Describe your blog:
JooJoo Azad (meaning “Free Bird” in Farsi) is a fashion and social action blog written by Iranian-Muslim student and activist Hoda Katebi. Along with weekly tips for bloggers and creatives and the occasional Q&A on Islam or Iran, JooJoo Azad is focused on featuring fashion that is beautiful–inside and out–rather than destructive and exploitative.
What is your favorite post you’ve written or your favorite series/type of post?
My weekly “Blogging Tips” series is my most popular, but I most enjoy my “Minimalist Closet” series which encourages my readers to transition to a minimal wardrobe—as in a wardrobe that is physically minimal (not the style) in order to limit our consumption, detach ourselves from material possessions, and live more socially-conscious lives!
What is something you wish you knew how to do related to blogging?
I wish I knew how to code my own layouts! Life would honestly be so much easier, especially since I’m c o n s t a n t l y wanting to tweak/rearrange/edit things. All the time.
Why did you start blogging?
Fashion blogging has always been in the back of my mind but it wasn’t until a pregnant Muslim woman suffered a miscarriage due to a hate attack in France that I decided that I could no longer play the part of the silent observer.
What is your favorite social platform?
Instagram! I’m such a visually-oriented person and I love that it pushes me to be more creative with my photography!
What is your favorite Chicago blog?
Love Zahra — she’s honestly such a babe!
