Great news! We’ve added Zinio Digital Magazines to our suite of eResources. You can now access e-copies of popular magazines through the Windsor Public Library.   Some examples of titles in this collection include: Food Network Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, House Beautiful, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, National Geographic, Macworld, PC Magazine, Popular Science, and OK! These are just a few examples of the 40 titles available covering topics in Business, Men’s & Women’s Health, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, and more.  What you get through Zinio is the full magazine – not just links to articles like you may find with other databases.  What you see in the print copy you will see in the e-copy, unless of course the e-copy contains enhanced content – then you’ll actually see a bit more. (Side note: check out National Geographic Interactive  - you will not be disappointed).

You can read Zinio e-magazines online through a browser, or you can download them to a tablet or mobile device for offline access through the Zinio App.  The best news is that you can check out as many as you want at any given time, and they never expire!  Once you’ve downloaded a copy it is yours to keep forever…or at least until you run out of storage.  This is a great resource that we have really been looking forward to offering our customers.  We’ve only been up and running for three days, and have already seen over 150 magazines checked out!

Here’s how it works:

(1) On our Databases Page, click on Zinio.

(2) Click on “Create New Account” and enter your library card number in the box.

(3) Fill in the rest of the account information (name, email, password).

(4) That’s it! You are now ready to start browsing and checking out.

If you will be reading through the browser, click on “Start Reading” which will bring you straight to the reader.  If you plan to download the magazines, once you have installed the Zinio App (you will find links to the appropriate Apps in this earlier blog posting) you can click on “My Library” or “Read” and then click on the down arrow for your publication – this will start the download.  Click on the cover to open the magazine.

If you find yourself stuck somewhere along the way, you may find these FAQ helpful.  You can also watch this Zinio for Libraries Video Tutorial.   Our library staff is also available to help you out – just stop in or give us a call!

We’d love to hear what you think of this great new eResource addition!
